Took the EPS Carry off the 365XL and installed it on the 19.5 yesterday so today was sight in day. No pics so imagine a 19.5 with a 6MOA green dot EPS Carry on top. Got the windage on at 7 yards then final zero at 15 yards. Confirmed POA/POI at 25 and 5 yards.

Brought along the 22/45 Lite and Supermatic Trophy. The ammo is stuff I've had sitting around since the mid to late-00s. Neither will cycle the Ruger but both cycled the HS. Mostly.

After marinating in the safe for 2 years, I finally brought the Chiappa Little Sharps in .38-55 out for it's first range trip. As light as it is, I was really concerned about recoil. Turns out it's a pussycat with the Black Hills 255gr load. According to the Garmin, the box of 20 averaged 1259.2 fps, ES 37.2 and SD 10.1. I've got another box of this load and 200 new Starline cases so I'm looking forward to putting some ammo together for it. First 5 shots after getting it on paper at 25 yards, shot from the bench with my elbows as the rest:

Last 5 after adjusting the windage. I was getting antsy knowing it was my last 5 rounds and this was going to be my last target for the day. When I brought the target in, I was scratching my head because I knew I hadn't shanked one off the paper. It took me a minute to realize that hole in the 9 ring is 2 shots.

I shot a bowling pin match the next county over. I shot my 22/45 w/irons, the 22/45 w/TacSol upper and Aimpoint, M&P45 w/irons, M&P9 CORE/ACRO, and S&W FPC. I didn’t shoot the iron sighted 22/45 as well as usual for some reason. The TacSol was malfunctioning a lot, which hasn’t happened, hoping it just needs cleaned (don’t recall ever cleaning it). The M&P45 shot well enough for second in the iron center fire. I’ve hardly shot much 40 or 45 since I retired four years ago and am not used to the recoil yet. I foolishly didn’t check the CORE/ACRO when I took it out of the safe. On the firing line I discovered it not working. Lesson learned. The PCC category was won by a guy with a 357 lever action. He also won everything else except the rimfire carbine, which was won by a very fast shooting teenager with a wood stock 10/22.

Shot my G17 Gen 4 with irons. 8 stage match and it was mediocre for me. I'm seeing the effects of a layoff and I think my grip isn't that good. Sigh. It was tiring also for me. Standing that long is hard of my knees. Yeah, whine - age - complain - sigh. Came home to Tylenol.

Had an interesting jam. The gun is usually reliable but the slide froze at touch out of battery and wouldn't rack. I dropped the mag, hit it forward and fired the one round in it. Then put in a new mag and it was ok for 4 more stages. Weird - bad round, mag ?

One guy's Glock (gamer gun) turned into a single shot one. Had to rack on each shot. Broken spring. I had a G19 do that years ago. Another new guy, first match got DQ'ed on the first stage. What happened was that he watched all the guys with a plan to shoot. However, these were experienced shooters and could navigate a tight move safely. Unfortunately, He came around a barricade and pointed his gun right at the score keeper. Stopped and unloaded by the SO. Too bad. But if you are new - just relax at bit. Another new guy did just fine. One new LEO with his duty belt - excellent shot and nice guy.

The club is seeing an increase in shooters. If you don't sign up on Practiscore when the match opens, you can miss participation.

I need to work on grip and trigger again. But I had fun like the other old coots.

This one is currently the go-to.

If you're not going to learn to use the front sight properly, don't bother with it. If pointing the gun, screaming "Ahhhhh!" and cranking on the trigger is all you can learn to do, work on doing that safely. -ToddG

Last night we got out for skeet for the first night of the summer season.
Last year I decided to regain interest in pump guns, and bought a 18in Mossberg 590. I set that up with a Magpul SGA and am still tinkering with light and RDO setup. A while later I liked it enough I had the bright idea to get a 500 I could shoot clay targets with, and potentially hunt some with. And the combo guns are a bargain so I got one with a 26in VR barrel and a 18in barrel with a little bead. I shot it a few times last year but never really got in a groove with it, but last night I took it out and did pretty well.

First round was typical for the first round of the summer and I missed enough targets I quit keeping accurate track, but the second round I broke 21/25. But the big news was the third round I managed 24/25, only because I screwed the pooch on High8, a target that I am usually good on. I was probably distracted by prematurely composing a different version of this post in my mind...

We typically do four rounds, but the thing was thumping me pretty good in the face, I was shooting the factory AA shells we bought to get the hulls, we typically shoot a 3/4oz load at skeet.

Also I have plenty of more suitable guns to shoot skeet with but this is a fun challenge, and picking up the practice of the pump gun manipulations is helpful.

Spent Wednesday with @Gyro F-16 at the Fort Carson range. We usually try to go up into the mountains to shoot steel and run drills, but we wanted to spend time on a know distance range to get good zeros on our rifles as well as see how they group at various ranges. Thus we endured the silliness that goes with a "Fudd Range."

It was a day of first for me as well as I had two new optics to zero to their rifles as well as a brand new suppressor. While I'm sure it will get me killed in the streets, I purchased a new Strike Eagle 1-8x FFP scope for my PWS 216 AR-10 to replace the 1st Gen 1-8x Strike Eagle that has been on it for several years. I was overall happy with the older Strike Eagle but wanted the better reticle of the newer scope and Sportsman's had them on sale for $375! I figured with tariffs on the horizon these scopes weren't going to get any less expensive.

I finally got a chance to test out my new suppressor as well since it was mostly purchased for my AR-10. The instructions said to soak it in CLP before the first firing so I did that. Upon firing the first round a HUGE while cloud enveloped my position. I thought I might have had a strike and blown up my gun but it was only all that CLP atomizing (I'm sure it was OK to breath right?). The mist coated my spotting scope making it impossible to see where I impacted and left me reeking of CLP. Gyro got this photo of me making smoke signals about 5 rounds later. By about 20 rounds the smoke finally went away.

Lastly I was able to zero my new "P-F Approved" 1-6x PST on the PWS116 I purchased last year. The PST reminds me of my Leupold Patrol. It supposedly has better glass than the Strike Eagle, but they seem real close in build quality. Time will tell.......

I took my training 2.0C to shoot the 52 week two card challenge. Time was good but I missed a shot.

I also another M&P I recently bought from a forum member. I forgot to take some better grade ammo and there was a thunderstorm quickly approaching so I shot a couple B8s and got out of there
