Because nobody wants a 40 anymore

When I found this lightly used Gen 5 Glock 22 MOS two weeks ago I was stunned at the price, $389 before tax. That is what I was told, nobody wants a 40 now, just trying to get it out of here.

I know 40 is on its way out and all the reasons why. But the recoil on this gun is even milder than the 23.5 I picked up in early 2020. I am very happy to get somebody's cast off.

So I will claim to be nobody! After our first outing I definitely want it.

Shot my G17 SRO - not my best day. One stupid penalty horror and a stupid no shoot hit. Good other hits but angry with myself. Gun ran fine.

First shoot of the year. Not very long ago, I shot weekly.

Went to our brother in laws club / range. We had…

    P30
    Caspian 1911 build in .45
STI 2011 in .40 (my limited gun)
    Beretta Vertec
    German Luger WW2 vintage
G34.4 with Delta Point direct mill
    M1A (BOOM)
Beretta Extrema dressed up for 3 gun
    Fire star in .40
2 unidentifiable to me pump actions
    Replica Colt Black Powder revolver.

But the real novelty of the day, my brothers home built potato cannon.

What did the potato cannon chrono at?

  5. #1735
It registered 2 readings. 403FPS and 827FPS. My assumption was the second reading was the gas that followed?..

All the talk about @Stephanie B’s incoming 28-2 made me dig out mine. I went through 50 rounds each of .357 Magnum 158-grain RNLs and JHPs. After shooting J and K frames and autoloaders, cranking that big cylinder around took some effort. But it still shoots well and accurately, and still soaks up the recoil from full-power ammo.

I warmed up today with 5 shots from the Bergara B14R at 100 yards. After this group I figured I was pretty warm

Ruger 44 carbine load, Great Success!

After multiple tries and retries, I was able to get a good working load for this incredibly troublesome rifle.

After not paying attention and steadily losing brass each time I tested loads, I finally got 100 rds of new starline brass and rigged up a brass catcher/stopper that worked and allowed me to concentrate on actually shooting the gun and not on holding up a rag with one hand and pulling the trigger with the other.

gun cal load avg high low extreme spread S D Notes

Ruger 44 carbine 44 Mag 240 gr Zero JSP 13.5gr Blue Dot 1388 1428 1336 92 36 Best shooting, no bullet tumbling or leaking primers
    Ruger 44 carbine 44 Mag 240 gr Zero JSP 14.0gr Blue Dot 1446 1475 1429 46 17 No tumbled shots
    Ruger 44 carbine 44 Mag 240 gr Zero JSP 14.5gr Blue Dot 1493 1521 1451 70 30 2 tumbled shots, 1 leaking primer.

While 14.0 had the best SD of any of the loads so far, I decided that 13.5 is the easiest to shoot and gave me the best groups (when I was able to manage the crunchy trigger). 14.5 gave me one shot with a slight primer leak, so I will lean to the lighter side at 13.5.

Since I was able to pull this group off (with one high flyer) at 50 yds with a Romeo7 on a B8 target, I will load up a bunch to take to 100 yds and see what I can do on 10" steel.
