EMC and I packed up a bunch of guns and gear, and headed down to the North Springs range near Price, UT for some long range practice. If you follow some of the Long Range Shooters of Utah channel on youtube, you will see this range in their videos.

The small targets, on the left side of the spotting scope image taken at 1000 yards, are steel "milk jugs" meant to simulate the targets they use in the milk jug challenge.

The 6x47L did great on the milk jugs , and it I was able to connect on the silhouette with the 223 and 6x47L.

They have some steel plates, which look to be 14x14", placed between 200 and 600 yards. With my old ML2 4MOA Aimpoint on a 16" AR, 90% hits were possible out to 400, beyond that it got a little tricky trying to figure out holdovers.

Dug out the AA .22 conversion for the Gen 4 G17 for some one shot draws.

Then some 1R1 and 1R2 with AR pistol #2 a SOLGW /DD clone of my Agency’s newest work rifle configuration. Working on putting the safety on during mag changes. This needs more dry work.

Did some Advanced Test (B8 10 rounds) at 5 and 10 yards with the G17.4 / DPP and my duty G17.4 with HD’s.

Did in / out of the black rather than score. Best 10 yard run was 6.07 clean from the holster with the DPP.

Fastest 5 yard was 2.54 with three out and a first shot of .55 from the holster with the DPP. Subsequent runs confirmed it was a fluke but it was interesting as it did not “feel” fast.

Finished with 3x10 on B8s at 25yards on a 30 second par with the DPP.

196/200 (2 10 rd strings 30 seconds each) for the last two mags of the day as the range was closing.

A few hundred rounds through my carry/duty G19-4. Started with 10 rounds at 25 with my duty ammo to confirm I’ve finally got the rear sight adjusted properly:

I still have such a hard time with 25y group shooting. If everything is going well, the bullets land where they’re supposed to but it’s tough to maintain that consistency. The two rounds that landed off paper, I lost front sight focus.

I also shot an Advanced Super Test. 274/300. Surprisingly, most of the shots in the 8 ring were from the 5y string. I placed my sights near the bottom of the 9 ring and ended up with several in the 8 and the majority in the 9. The 7 is front he 15y string that I fired way too quickly in around 10s.

Try alternating the order you run super test. I.e. starting at 5 vs starting at 15 so you have to both throttle up and throttle down. I find starting at 15 easier than starting at 5 for some reason.

I normally start at 5 and work back. Next time I’ll try starting at 15 and working in.

Put a box of 158gr reloads + a few of the usual snub Carry load, Federal Match WC's through my trusty LCR. Felt pretty good about my performance with it today, I'm really trying to get better at shooting snub revolvers...
Then about 200 rounds of Ball ammo with some HST's mixed in through the G48. Up to around 1500 through it so far without a hitch.

Before night shoot training tonight I shot m SD9VE and my P07. Here’s a 50 yard group with my SD9VE. M&P DG switch works just fine.

Back to the range after a few weeks off. Got so frustrated with my start off Fast Test results that I threw an empty mag down range (this is my secret Ninja trick to distract the bad guys). I don't do this very often but it seems to be somewhat cathartic.

My 13 yard 3" dot accuracy strings were encouraging, so maybe I need to take an old mag, add some weight to it and put a bucket down range as a mag flinging frustration target.

Did some other drills using my newly re-found 5" square target (aka. upper USPSA A zone) targets. Way back in diggity 2, when I was hot on the trail of IDPA advancement, I had a lot of USPSA targets that I taped off to only use the upper A zone. I have lately regressed/renewed myself to using this smaller target for all my practice instead of an 8" circle. I'm absolutely digging it a lot.

I drug out the Keltec Sub-2000 that I used to shoot at carbine matches before there was such a thing as PCC division. Same as it ever was, 1/3 to 1/2 of the rifle's mass is the reciprocating bolt and handle, lovely gas and unburned powder in my face and beard for being a left hander. It ran just fine on my new, wimpier, 3.8gr HP-38 arthritic friendly 9mm reloads.

Due to the reciprocating mass recoil and instability, I need to make the front sight more visible for faster shots. The crappy red plastic front sight had previously been replaced with a metal one, I am adding some red paint to it this night. A red dot would be ideal but this is an older model Keltek with no rails. Still, it's the best (only) folding 9mm, Glock mag using, carbine out there.

With a G17 mag loaded and a Glock 31 round mag affixed under the barrel, it can be folded to 16" and carried in various bags and coverings to make a decent 0 to 75 yd gun.
I'm glad i have it and it has accompanied me concealed in the truck for many years.

Shrimp enchiladas in Tomatillo Salsa Verde and a giant glass of iced tea at XXX restaurant on the way home completed the evening.

Thus have my range outings in Central Texas followed this pattern for the last 15-20 years. I'll be doing early voting in a few days, gonna be out of town later, doing...shooting.

My voting will reflect my shooting inclinations. Please, do the same when you come up to vote locally .

If I remember correctly @Tom_Jones, said a Glock SCD will work on the SD9VE. Tom, is this correct?

I taught a concealed carry class Saturday. One couple was sharing their SD. They shot relatively well and I like the pistol. I’ll probably start watching for a used one or two locally.
