I shot my 34 and my 19. I failed the LA swat qualifier. A friend passed it with a 2” 22 317. I also failed the Georgia law enforcement test. Today was quite humbling. Goes to show just shooting at plates and shooting groups does prepare you to shoot course of fire. The guns are capable. I feel I am capable of the accuracy needed for all of the courses. It’s getting my head in the game and following the directions and then following them and recovering and adjust if needed. I now know what I have to work toward.

Ran some pistol drills with the guys from my LGS.

After lunch I came back and zeroed my.22 ARs after some optic changes. The Anderson/PSA got a Primary Arms .22 LR 1-6 and the Tippman got the Holosun from the PSA build.

Zeroed the PA 1-6 at 25 per the manual. BDC was accurate at 100 yards off a barricade.

Had a visitor in my ammo bag. Spring means time to check for critters.

hit the range yesterday to check function with my two new rifle cans, YHM Turbo K and Turbo T2. Also brought a pair of Glocks to zero ACROs on them, P-1 on my G17 and P-2 on the G19.

Unfortunately the wind was among the strongest I've ever experienced and bitterly cold so that was a significant limiting factor, but at least let me check for function and get an acceptable zero with the cans mounted. For an idea of the wind, note those bushes by the target stand - those are actually tumble weeds. All pushed into my favorite 100M bay by the wind.

My mini recce (green furniture) is a brand new upper that I tested, functions fine w/o the can, a little overgassed with the can. the upper has a Criterion hybrid barrel supposedly optimized for performance with a suppressor, but wasn't really doing it for me. May swap in a Sprinco buffer spring to see if that helps. Worked OK ish with an H2 but overgassed, wouldn't lock back on an empty mag with the H3 weirdly.

The P&W 14.5 (gray furniture) seen on bags from profile did amazingly. The adjustable gas block (superlative) works great - functions 100% with and without can. big fan. The Bootleg adjustable BCG worked pretty well on my 11.5 too, seemed appropriately gassed on the 3rd setting (just before S).

Cans are great. no longer have the super loud report of my SBRs getting in the way of my shooting. Plus always get a kick out of mounting the YHM suppressors. Very satisfying.

Not today but over last weekend.

Working on a 75 ELD load for my 223 precision rifle. Their profile makes them a little more sensitive to seating depth but I am starting to find the sweet spot.

I started of with my 55 SP load, cold bore + 4

Next I shot the ELD load. I had the chrono out for a friend and it showed an SD of 15 which I am pretty happy with out of a 223.

I am going to play with seating depth a little more, then turn up the powder charge a few more tenths, to see if I can clean up the vertical.

I didn't take any pictures, but it wouldn't have been that exciting. I set up and shot the CM18-01 classifier with my CO gear. It was interesting to see my performance decline over the 4 runs (using recently updated HHF = 5.00):
    • HF 4.89 97%
    • HF 4.76 95%
    • HF 4.57 91%
    • HF 4.53 90%

This was almost entirely due to declining points on the support hand string. I cracked an upper left rib in the dojo last week, so maybe that's the reason I felt less stable on SHO?

World War II called and asked @Flamingo and I to return their guns. Between his Hi-Power, my 1911, and this Enfield Mk.2...

That Enfield was a hoot to shoot. The trigger was way better than I thought it would be.

I took way too much stuff to the range today to be honest. 3 Glocks and 3 Berettas. I did manage to stay focused primarily on stuff I want to carry. For no good reason, I’ve been feeling the itch to change up my carry stuff. I’m wanting to go back to the 92 as my main and use a G26 for light clothing carry. At any rate, here’s some pics from the day

That was my second HiTS Super Test of the day with a 92GX Full-size. My first one was a 272. At least I passed, the second one was obviously much better. I shot that drill some more with some other stuff. Never did beat the run I posted, although I got a 289 with a G34.5 MOS using the factory plastic sights. I need to get some Dawson’s for it.

After that, I worked the G26.5 some. Passed The Test a couple times with mid 90’s runs. The I tried the 5 yard Roundup and The Wizard Drill

The smaller of the two upper circles is 4” for reference.

After that, used my 92XG Centurion for the same two drills

After that, I ran the IDPA 5x5 classifier. I didn’t have any IDPA targets on hand, so I used the 8 ring of the B8 for an 8” circle, the 4” circle for a head, and did my best guesses on -1 and -3 areas. I may have scored myself a little harsh, not sure. Anyway, according to the info I have, I shot Expert, barely.

All in all, I was more than a little frustrated with how I shot today. I had to work my ass off to pass the Wizard, largely due to the 7 yard headshot. The 10 yard pair COM wasn’t that hard and the 3 yard SHO to the head wasn’t as difficult as I’d expected. I found the 5 yard roundup to not be too difficult.

Realistically, I need to get back to regular dry fire or something if I want to do much better than I did today and I know it.

As I was putting my gear away, the strangers at the 100 yard line approached and started a convo and asked if I wanted to shoot some cool stuff. I held back a bit of an eyeroll as our range doesn't generally have clientele with anything I would find novel but I humored them and walked to their rifle bay. Boy was I glad I did. Several form 1 cans on rimfire pistols, ar's, pistols, an h&r single shot that was cut down and threaded, and finally the cherry was an mp5 clone pistol and an sbr kriss with a can and binary trigger. I stood around and conversated about nfa stuff and reloading, which I know nothing about, and occasionally shot the stuff they handed me. Pretty cool dudes and very generous. Certainly a novel experience at our little range. The only other time I recall someone bothering me for something other than my brass was a luger, which was cool. I always shoot whatever I have the opportunity to shoot but do not ever approach folks at the range. I'm glad they did today.

Finished 1st in CO today, even with a 8s malfunction on the 18-01 classifier caused by too-long rounds. That was frustrating because it would have been a G run. But my fault for not checking my ammo carefully enough.
