    Refinishing a m64

Picked this up off of GunBroker the other day. It's meant to be a aiwb beater but I was wondering if I polished it up with flitz ifi would be doing some great wrong.

If not flitz what is the best way to get the factory finish back. Some pics I see have a great frosted finish.

While we're at it. What are your favorite grips on stainless guns?

I put some black and gray VZ grips on the 64 I bought last December. They are a big improvement over what came on my revolver. I think they look good too.

That's a pretty good looking combination.

The frosted finish on stainless you are referring to is bead blasting. It does look nice.

Thanks. I like how closely the gray matches the stainless. For a blued revolver, I definitely would have gone with black/cherry. The cherry looks just bright enough to provide a nice contrast without drawing too much attention to itself.

A nice bead blast finish is always a good look on a stainless gun. While loving a great deep polished blue gun, polished stainless turns me off. But since this is going to be a beater gun do you want to spend that much cha ching on finish or on working parts of the gun??? Back in the 70's a gun smith friend of mine had a cloth he used to even out the mat finish that had become polished with wear. I'm not shore of the particulars, maybe someone else can jump in and supply the details and point to were you could find one.

Yeah, I like nickle but polished stainless doesn't normally look as good.

I've thought about a scotch Brite pad to at least make all the scratches go in the same direction.

Leaving it as is, is fine too.

Yes Scotch Brite will work but I don't remember if it's the green or red pads.
