I'm assuming all that is already in. The boss said the big hold up would be the body armor.

Thankfully, the vest fit. The other new guy wasn't so lucky, so he has another two month wait while his is returned. I should start very soon and since they're short handed I'll be working full time for the time being. Money, money!

I just made a second trip to the fed building. I now have a blue blazer and a key ring, so it must be official. Come Monday morning I'm an official member of the blue blazer gang.

What's the reason for the two months to receive armor?

Because it's the government. Why did the application process take six months? Same thing. I'm sure they don't just order "a" vest. They wait until they need enough to order X amount, etc. Government efficiency. That's why I jumped into the process as soon as I did. I'd been told it took months and didn't want to wait until post retirement to start.

I just finished my first week on the job.

    A few observations:

Boredom is the biggest enemy on this job. The challenge is staying alert.

Federal Judges seem to think they need to wax loquacious every time they pass sentence. Hey judge, sentence the felons ass and let's move on. By Jupiter's cock, you're not providing a life changing moment here, nor do you need to explain the Magna Carta.

Pretty good group of guys. Only a couple of blue falcons who seem to have caused quite a bit of trouble recently, but since Paragon took over the contract they seem to have put paid to those shenanigans.

Weapon is the Glock 23. Not my favorite brand or model thereof, but I'm not paying for it myself.

The body armor with the blazer absolutely sucks balls. The thing's heavier that what I wore on the job and feels like a flak jacket. Being a weight lifter I have a fairly developed upper body and it makes me look even bigger than I already am in the torso and I don't need any assistance in that area. Combine the white vest carrier with the blue blazer and I look like the courthouse penguin. Oh well, I'm gettin' paid.

At 53 I'm the youngest of the bunch. It's been a long time since I was the new guy and even longer since someone addressed me with, "Hey kid".

I signed up for part time, but we're currently under staffed so it's full time for the immediate future. I'm 50/50 on that. The money will be nice, but I was looking forward to the free time.

All in all, I recommend it.

    Any formal training program ?

I know all CSO’s have to have prior LE experience to even get hired, but any formal training that they send you off to, or is it all on the job . FLETC ?

There's a week long class at FLETC, but that's it. That class mainly centers on training with scanners, metal detectors, etc. Everything else is OJT. They recruit retired cops for a reason. You should already have the critical skills needed for the job.

Who is supplying the vest - USMS or the company ?

I ask because DHS and DOJ have department wide body armor contracts to save money so DOJ agencies (USMS, DEArtc all get the sane armor with different identifiers. Same with DHS - ICE, USBP, USSS etc get the sane armor “kit” with different color carriers and different Velcro ID placards.

If it is on a DOJ contract your order is going in the que with every other DOJ body armor order for DEA, USMS, FBI etc
