    Retiring a bit early............

I'd been looking at retiring next April, but that seems like it may be pushed up a bit.

One of the things I've been looking at is a certain post retirement job with the feds, but haven't done anything official as of yet. Low and behold, yesterday morning I get a call out of the blue from that very job telling me they'd heard I might be retiring and an opening's coming up and am I interested? Well, that was unexpected and highly fortuitous so how could I say no? I shot off an application and a resume and have an interview tomorrow. It appears the job is mine as long as I don't screw it up, so I may be going in December rather than April.

    Sometimes Christmas does come early.

Congrats! I have to ask, though: what differentiates this as "retirement" vs "career change?"

Exactly and this starts out at nearly what I'm making now, at the top of my current pay scale. Within a couple of years it will exceed that. So, nice pay raise all things combined. It would be the first nine to five, Monday through Friday job I've ever had. Mrs. Awesome and I both like the sound of that. It isn't often they come looking for me, so I think the universe might be telling me to not be stupid and get after it.

    Thanks guys.

That flies by before you know it. It seems like yesterday I was reporting for training and now it's nearly over. In some ways it seems like a lifetime, in others I don't know where it went.

    Good for you!
Don’t blame me. I didn’t vote for that dumb bastard.
