This course was an entry-level concealed carry close quarters combatives class taught by Green Ops and Matt Larsen of C4 Combatives on June 2, 2018 in Culpeper, VA. The 8-hour course was broken into two equal parts, the first of which comprised a safety briefing, dry fire, and live fire exercises run by Green Ops. The second portion of the course, run by Matt Larsen, took place at a local gym and focused on close quarters combatives which revolved around grappling with blue guns. Standard gear was used including AIWB and strong side hip holsters, a variety of handguns, and blue guns that were provided by the instructors.

The first portion of the course began with basic dry fire drills that covered drawing from concealment. Live fire then began with some fundamentals which were facilitated by dot torture and bill drills. The bulk of this material was similar to the other basic handgun course material taught by Green Ops, but there were also some aspects unique to this CQC course. These included drawing and firing in contact range as well as grabbing the slide of the handgun with a tight grip and firing in order to induce a malfunction, clear it, and fire. I learned that a Shield is perhaps not the best weapon to use for this particular drill. During this portion of the course we fired approximately 200 rounds.

The second portion of the course was focused on fighting for control of an opponent in order to create an opportunity to draw a weapon, fighting over a weapon, and various positional scenarios. It bore many similarities to BJJ, but the presence of a weapon drastically changes the nature of the fight. Matt is an expert who communicated both the technique and philosophy of fighting and training in a clear and interesting manner.

Overall the course was well worth the money and I would highly recommend this and other courses by Green Ops and/or Matt Larsen.
