Thread: RFI Newly skinny guy CCW ideas needed

Strong side IWB with a G19 sized gun should work just fine for you. Worked for me for years. Still does when I choose it.

I carry AIWB alot now, and it's harder to find the right combination of sweet spot/holster/gun for that position.

FWIW, I'm 5'6 150, and it does help greatly to have the upper body built up enough to give you a "drape" over the midsection. Doesn't take much either.

I can get away with a G17 in either position. Experiment, you'll figure it out in due time.

Surprisingly harder to add muscle than to lose fat.

I have a G26, it does help with the grip printing but it still sticks out pretty obviously thickness wise even when I blouse out my shirt. I don't have enough moobs to drape yet.

Galco straight drop IWB leather holster (don't remember model) and I don't remember the brand of belt. It is an 1 1/4" wide double thick leather holster belt that I bought 20+ years ago before I got married and was skinny. I had 10-15 lbs more muscle then.

I am open to other holster/carry position options but I have honestly only ever carried AIWB. Back when I got my CCW in 1998 it was a Walther P5. By the time I started AIWB G19 I had gotten married and gotten fat.

Still married, no fat left but don't have a Walther P5 either.

I wish I could find something similar today. It carried and shot very well. Shouldn't have ever gotten rid of it but someone wanted it way more than I did at the time.
I've always found that fitness is a cycle of cycles for me. Illness, injuries, periodic time crunches, and plain laziness have had me fluctuate in weight and fitness level quite a bit.

That said, good gear never changes. I think you might try investing in better holsters/belts before spending money on guns, which is a much more expensive proposition. One belt I've really come to love for AIWB is the Meginjord by V Development Group. I've found this takes pressure off my pelvis and lets me conceal an AIWB pistol much ore easily.

I also very much like the JMCK wing claw 2.0 (2.5 is also probably great) holster series and the Seraph from VDevGru. Both make carrying a doublestack pistol substantially more easy.

If you do opt for a smaller gun over time, I'd go with a 43, just for the sake of commonality with your Glock 19 (assuming you aren't looking to move away from Glocks). The M&P Shield is also a nice gun and not so different from the G19; I carried one for a while and liked it quite a bit.

Super nice gun, though. The grip is longer than the G26.

    Awesome.

I have lots of lunchtime research material.

I would love to stay with the G19/Glock if I could. I have lots of reps and mags and spare parts for them so if possible, that would be ideal for me. I have some other holsters that my brother gave me when he switched to 1911's that I can try out as well as look at some of your recommendations.

I have been wanting to look at one of these out of curiosity. I can't believe there isn't a market for a single stack DA/SA automatic out there. There can't be that many of the old S&W left to fill all the demand.

However, my very limited experience with the XD my brother had at one time has me very leery of trusting them for anything other than a range toy.

Any holster recommendations for Strong side IWB?

Sig 225 A1 or 239 depending on how you feel about Sig. I'm not sure either one is "thinner" than a Glock 19 by any way that matters once using a good holster/belt.

For me for strong side IWB BladeTech, standard IWB with PDS loops, or clip, or their Ultimate Klipt work great for me. Set at neutral cant (straight drop).

It's a very indibidual thing though. For example, in the past I tried a Kramer IWB #3, which is a holstet made specifically for the G19. I hated it, never could get used to it. The BladeTech worked much bettet for me.

I'd wager a purpose-built AIWB holster and a belt like the MM/Graith Specialist or the VDev Megingjord will get you there.

If you like leather, consider ordering a JRC Leather AIWB/CDA 2 or a Watson Special. The 5Shot SME is also always a good choice. You'll have to wait on both of those, most likely though.

All the kydex companies that are here in the site supporting businesses make great AIWB holsters. I'd look at the JMCK George model in particular, as it was designed specifically with skinny dudes in mind. The kydex with the most adjustment options will be a Keeper by Keepers Concealment.

Any of them can benefit from a good foam wedge. I like the Verso wedge from Mastermind Tactics. It is cut specifically to help reduce the printing Glock slides can have at the corner.
