Actually, that is why I decided to make a change about a year and a half ago. I had a health episode that made me "see the elephant" and almost cost me my life.

Luckily I am a anal retentive nerd and noticed the symptoms and got myself into the hospital and told the doctors what it was before there was any permanent damage. I have made an "atypical recovery" and am better now health wise than I was prior to the issue.

We do a Healics test/scoring as part of our medical insurance at work and I went from having a score of 76 to a perfect 100 score. Actually the only "ding" was my LDL (bad cholesterol) was a little low which isn't bad just "too good". The health coach actually asked me for advice.

I switched mindsets and focused 100% on my health and completely changed what I eat and how I exercised and what I spent time on. Which is why I didn't notice my CCW didn't really work until this past weekend when we went to see the new Solo movie and I had to switch to my NAA Guardian 32 because that was all I could hide.

    It can be done.

I lost about 1-2 lbs per week for over a year to get to where I am now. I was miserable at first but now I am used to it and I don't crave any of the foods that I used to.

I have a very similar build to yours (5’11” 150lbs) and carry a G19 AIWB whenever I’m off duty. The keys for me are chest size that’s bigger than waist size so my shirts drape over the gun, a good belt (Graith Specialist), a good holster (Dark Star Gear Orion with a foam wedge) and closed front button up shirts.

I always found the original style AIWB holster like the CCC Shaggy or the JMCK AIWB didn’t work for me. The thickness needed for the belt wedge was too much to conceal with how thin I am. It always looked really obvious. Then I found the Raven Concealment claws. I started with an Eidolon and it actually concealed for me. I had never been able to carry AIWB before. I didn’t really like how little tension the holster had on the gun though. Then I bought the DSG holster and it was perfect. The combination of foam muzzle wedge and wing claw allowed for a thinner holster that tucked the gun in well without printing much if at all. The spring steel clip provided an even lower profile than the belt loops and still offered an acceptable level of retention on the belt.

I’ve found there is something about button up shirts that makes it easier to conceal a gun AIWB than a T-shirt. Maybe it’s the fabric or the cut of the shirts. They don’t even have to be patterned. The stereotypical plaid patterned shirts make concealing a gun effortless but the solid pattern ones work almost as well. I have a salmon/pink linen old navy button up that I wear all the time and it hides the gun perfectly. A T-shirt always lets the gun print for me when there is any kind of breeze or I’m moving at any pace faster than a slow crawl.

I’m still experimenting with some things. I like the look of those new mod wings. They seem to offer a similar level of grip tuck with a smaller profile at the belt line. Sometimes I feel that the wing claw tucks the grip in so well that it actually torques it too much the other way. Each new development seems to get me just a tiny bit closer to perfect.

Regardless of the gun at that size you'll need a flexible belt, claw based grip rotation, and a holster that's longer than the gun. A muzzle wedge will likely help too.

Another vote for purpose built holster. I’m 5’8” about 165. Can carry a 19 sized pistol with relative ease. All about finding the right combo.

Congrats Crow Hunter! I'm a skinny guy too at 6'5" 178lbs but I have the shoulders from years of athletics. Button up shirts do hide better and I find OWB holsters to be the most comfortable. I've carried a full size government, k frame Smith with speedloader and a small frame 9mm. Gotta use a good belt but a light pistol is best for me.

    I am a visual learner.

Hope this helps. I have leather where you could throw foam to experiment with.

Check out the above link for example pics. Notice the foam wedge near the muzzle. That pushes the muzzle away from your pelvis and the grip into your gut. Try different sizes to figure out what works best for your body type. The linked holster also has a wing claw and “belt wedge” that also help push the grip in.

Looks like his site gives a pretty good description of AIWB features.

Was going to mention mastermind tactics. I got one of his holsters (radian with the belt claw and the foam wedge) and it’s amazing what a real AIWB holster can do. I went from carrying a shield with a “do all” holster to the above holster carrying a M&P 2.0 compact and there’s a marked difference in conceability. Try an actual AIWB holster with a claw and wedge with a good belt. I think you will be back to your glock 19
