I think it is a combination of factors, including:

1) the size of the display

2) the tint of the display

3) that the display appears more curved than flat like some other red dots

4) the way the protective ears block down range vision

5) that the RMR is often paired with BUIS and that they combine to make an already small display effectively smaller — as opposed to a design like the Shield RMS that allows iron sights to be unobtrusive

6) I left it in a mud puddle and then forgot to clean it.

I do love the battery life and controls on the RMR, that current ones seem to hold zero, and that they are reliable, or at least as reliable as non-Aimpoint red dots seem to be.

How is the RMS Shield holding up in the real world?

I am told that Glock has 40 of them in use on their sales force demo guns, and none have broken so far. Not sure how real world that is, but it is certainly promising.

A comparison shot with both optics utilizing the same BUIS would be better.....suppressor sights, regulars, or none.

They are auto adjust only. Auto adjust sucks for a carry pistol that you will use in-conjunction with a white light to ID threats/non-threats. Dot washes out under white light.

True but that’s why we have irons for backup.

And with the Shield you can use awesome irons. I had Dawson FO on a PPQ and Ameriglo Orange front with tritium rear on a G19. Between that and how clear the Shield lens is, the irons are extremely usable on a Shield equipped pistol.
