Duracell is now owned by Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway and the latest cells are not made in the US but in the EU.
I have had nothing but trouble with the AAs. Leakage and very short life.
At a recent class my Com Tac muffs went through two sets in one day. Brand new batteries.
So at least with the lot I have,
QC and QA seem to be in the sh#tter.

The long battery life often quoted is with the rheostat a "7." I tend to run mine brighter and don't get years of battery life. I've noticed wide variations in how long a battery last. I've replaced them after 6 months and I've had some last a year.

I run Sony branded batts bought on Amazon and have had good luck with them. I leave mine at setting 6 or 7 and generally get a couple of years but towards the end I may need to increase a notch or two which is when I change it.

Temperature variations, both hot and cold, affect battery life also.
