A good suggestion with one caveat. The older guns have 1/10" wide ramp sights. I've reached the point where seeing those has become difficult. The more recent guns have much better sights. I prefer the older guns for their build quality and case hardened parts instead of MIM, but my two primary carry J frames are a 342 Ti and a 642 Pro. My shooting J frame is a 640 Pro with what are arguably the best factory J frame sights of them all.

    New J frame purchase question

Looking at a possible purchase of a J Frame as a dog walking gun/backup.

Since I started shooting my Ruger Blackhawk, for some reason I kind of...like revolvers.

I handled one of these at the LGS a few weeks back:

    “PERFORMANCE CENTER[emoji768] PRO SERIES[emoji768] MODEL 640
    SKU: 178044”

    https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearm...ries-model-640

Anyone know the no kidding trigger pull weight? Would the Apex kit be an option here or should I plan on just shooting it stock?

The 640 Pro has a typical S&W revolver trigger. It is not a full-on Performance Center revolver. The Apex Kit, polishing internals, live and dry fire will give you a very nice trigger. The Pro is an excellent starting point to learn revolvers. The sights and weight work in your favor. Moon clips help to quickly eject your first five rounds. I reload with Bianchi Speed Strips set-up in a 2X2 configuration.

I like the Pro so much I sent it to Denny Reichard at Sand Burr Ranch. He's worked on another Smith revolver for me. Am anxiously awaiting his subtle improvements.

I was going to make a seperate thread but I figured this would fit. I used to jog with my Shield in a DSG Hitchhiker AIWB with a Megingjord belt. The problem I ran into was it the belt would eventually start riding up making my gun print like crazy and cause it to bounce around to the point where I just jog unarmed which I reluctantly do. Could anyone lend some insight to carrying a J Frame while jogging? I read somewhere that almost all of the weight on a J Frame like a 442/642 is in the cylinder and what I'm assuming is that the gun won't bounce around as much considering all the weight would be right next to my belt line if that makes sense?

CDNN has a few different M442/M642 options at good prices. Here is a PC 442 with a stainless cylinder and no internal lock for $400. https://www.cdnnsports.com/smith-wes...om-tuned.html?

Here is a M642 with no lock for $360. https://www.cdnnsports.com/smith-wes...irweight.html?

As against them as I am it's hard to look past a belly band for jogging with a J frame, I think it would be your best option.

Any negatives you have observed from them?
