    As for the sheathes and storing knives, it's generally true that it's not the best method but it depends on the leather used and the tanning process. I'm not an expert so I won't go further. I have several knives of 52100, 0-1 and other carbon steel that have survived for years in sheathes because of the way they were made. Others I wouldn't chance and stay in zipper pouches with a coating of mineral oil or Ren wax.
