    Check out Salute Targets:

    https://www.salutetargets.com

By now at least tens of thousands of rounds for about a decade have been launched onto Salute steel targets mounted on their spring loaded target bases, which not only angle the plates downwards, but rock a bit when hit, which provides a bit of visual feedback as well as supposedly bleeding off more energy from the impact.

I shoot handgun rounds and buckshot on one side of the plate, and rifle rounds on the other side. The rifle rounds, mostly 5.56mm (both M193 and M855) and 7.62x39, shot as close as 25 yards, have definitely taken a toll on their side. The rifle side is heavily pitted and cratered. But the handgun/shotgun side (I have no problem shooting at this side as close as 5-7 yards) is as smooth as they were ten years ago.

It's hard to find on their web site but Salute also makes a dueling tree that's rated for 7.62x51. It has SIX rifle rated targets and runs around $550. The paddle design means that it gives when smacked by a rifle round.

Shooting rifles up close is a lot harder. The only stuff that will work 100% is expensive and from MGM.

For instance, their BC target can be shot as close as 15 yards because of the rake they put on the plate.

Their lolli-popper is another product that will take the abuse of rifle rounds up close. The steel will become pitted but the fact that the arms move so much mean that the fragment will go behind the target, not to the front.

If you want to spend the money, they make a target that combines the Lolli-popper with their BC zone.

Because they "flip" and send the fragment behind them, I've had good luck shooting the hostage taker plate on Defense targets stuff. You pit the steel but the frag doesn't come back at you.
Would you have a recommendation between https://defensetargets.com/collectio...ucts/the-noner and https://defensetargets.com/collectio...hip-target-rst ? Also is the hostage add-on a good idea?

After thinking about it, being able to shoot it with a ar isn’t a big deal to me. I shoot much more pistol and I don’t mind shooting cardboard with the AR because I like to practice at distances I can find in my house, all of which are too close for steel.

Does anyone here have experience using the “evil Roy target system” for hitting steel? Seems cool. But I have not used one.

I went with the RST w/ hostage. Seemed like a great size plus the hostage target will let me work accuracy when I want to change it up. They claim the fastest shipping and they weren’t lying. I ordered last night and just got shipping notification.
