There are four strings of fire, each with a time limit of 2.5 seconds. (Remember the three-second statistic? We want to be effective within that time.) Scoring is by the rings on the target for the ten shots, equaling a possible 100 points. Hits off of the ten-inch repair center are counted as misses and minus ten each. Late hits are noted and five points are deducted per late shot. A “scratch eight” in 2.49 seconds is preferable to a “ten” over the limit, which nets only five points.
String 1: Draw and fire 1 shot freestyle

String 2: From freestyle ready, fire 4 shots freestyle

String 3: From strong hand only ready, fire 3 shots strong hand only

String 4: From support hand only ready, fire 2 shots support hand only

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Equipment used (pistol, holster, optional concealment garment if one was used)
    Number of overtime shots
Total score out of possible 100
    Anything you noticed

Like most B-8 centered drills, there are levels of achievement. First, all ten hits within time on the ten-inch paper: respectable, useful, and on the right path.

Next, all within the eight-inch “8” ring with most in the black: solid, and demonstrating all the right stuff. This typically works out to a 90 or above score and is about what I’d look for in a SWAT or instructor-level shooter.

Next is all in the black within time. That is usually a 95 or above and is back-slap worthy on any firing line.

Finally, this drill is 100% max-able. The very best can do it regularly, almost on demand, but it requires that everything is done right. Often the last hit with either of the single-hand strings will frustrate that perfect run.

Copied and pasted from my post in the original thread:

I ran this drill eight times this morning using my CZ-75B and 147-grain factory equivalent handloads. I went over time on three of them; the first one I went over on the second and third strings, and then on the fifth and seventh tries on the second string (by .02 and .04 seconds respectively). Uncorrected scores were from 91-98; corrected scores were 83 (first one) to 95 (second one). Oddly enough, I did best with the last (WHO) string.
Additional info: Concealment gament was a buttoned, untucked square-bottomed shirt; holster was a Comp-Tac IWB worn at about 3:30; all strings were shot beginning with the hammer fully down.

I shot it again with my PX4CC. Fail. Overtime shots and hits off the target.

    I need practice.

P-07 (stock) in JMCK AIWB 2.5 under a fleece.

98 points. The two in the 9 ring were SHO and WHO.

    Note: target isn’t quite standard.

    Week 258: Five-Yard Roundup

I ran this four times today: twice with a G19-5 and twice with my duty G21-3. It was in the 30s and had snowed yesterday so I had to bundle up which slowed my concealed draw.

G19-5. AIWB using a DSG Orion concealed under a Columbia fleece.
    95/100
    No overtime shots

    97/100
    No overtime shots

G21-3 unconcealed in a Safariland ALS holster.
    94/100
    No overtime shots

    88/100
One SHO shot overtime (93 points -5 for the late shot)
The two rounds in the 7 ring are both WHO shots. I rushed this string after having come in over par time on the last SHO shot.

Things I noticed: I shoot the G19 better than the G21 in both speed and consistency. I’m collecting data to eventually present a proposal to the firearms instructors and the command staff to transition my agency to 9mm. It’s nice to have an short, fast drill to compare different guns and end up with actual numbers to measure performance.

Also, my WHO shooting needs work.

Overall, I like this drill and put it in the same area as The Test. It’s simple, fast, a good test of fundamentals, and something that can be tracked to notice improvement. Like Justin said, it’s also a good way to compare performance with different guns. Since it’s only 10 rounds, I’ll likely add it to most range sessions.

Tried this drill once before tackling other exercises today and did better than I expected. Left (weak) hand was the worst, with one nicking upper left of the paper (missed seeing it when totaling hits, ergo the "8/10" note), one completely off paper. All times under 2.5, strong hand/weak hand just barely under time.

I'll definitely do this at the beginning of my range sessions for awhile after stepping up my weak-hand dry fire practice. (The holes in the corners are from staples)

    VP9.

    First try:
    93-5 (2.59 on string 3) = 88

    Second try:
    90. All strings under par time.

Single hand with time constraints is tough for me. Fun drill.

    5 yard round up.
Beretta 92A1, JMCK OWB2, Blazer 115gr aluminum. No concealment. 8" circle drawn on paper - didn't have a B8 with me like I thought I did. Ran the drill anyway, w/o point scoring.
    Run 1:
    1-1.71.
2-9.16. 2 late. Couldn't remember if I was supposed to keep shooting after the par beep, so had a moment of cognitive dysfunction that I had to get through. Then shot the second pair. All in the circle, though!
    3-2.73. 1 late
4-1.51-Both shots on 4 were off paper - somewhere.
3 total low left hits on paper, outside the circle.

Said, I can do better than that!
    Run 2:
    1-1.72
    2-2.16
3-2.16 - 2 low left, just outside circle
    4-2.03. Low, just off paper

Everything- left hand, draw, front sight tracking - needs work.
