They can be goofy, but it looks like they did some original digging on this one.

Now I don't feel so bad about the cost of 130gr .38 HST.

I guess there's always the Barney Bullet concept. Keep one in your pocket just in case.

In reality I'd expect it not to be general issue.

You guys watch any sci-fi movies? Note all the Ai and drones? SKYNET? Mil needs a cache of super AP stuff until we get the plasma rifles.

Question, does that cost include any new equipment to open up the line and to pay back the R&D costs?

The linked article suggested that it might, but offered no concrete proof that it did or didn't.

In 2017 the program include R&D cost. It's pretty common practice for DOD to amortize R&D and tooling cost on a per unit basis for a number of years. That reflects the true cost of the project on a delivered product, not necessarily the cost to manufacture an individual unit.

The blog is comparing apples to oranges by comparing a product where the R&D was amortized long ago with a product that still reflects R&D cost.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you're probably right.

    Thanks for posting that.

The program details are on p. 37-42, for anyone who wants to read it.
