The proposed policy change, due to take effect on Jan. 4, came as part of an internal memo obtained Sunday night by the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Specifically, it states deputies “shall” immediately intervene instead of “may” in the case of an active shooter scenario. The policy also notes there are “very limited extenuating circumstances” when a solo deputy can delay their response. Responding officers also would have defined priorities, in order: - Stop the shooter; - Rescue the victims and provide medical assistance; - Arrest suspects and preserve the crime scene. The Sheriff’s Office did not respond to requests for comment on Sunday.

An extensive report has been published by The South Florida Sun-Sentinel. I haven't read the whole thing, but there appear to be a lot of insights here.

After 98 pages, I'm wondering if this should get its own thread, as this hasn't gotten much national attention. This really paints a picture of the Boward Sheriff's Department being a complete failure, to the point where they wouldn't even enter the school with 8+ deputies on scene.
EDIT: I see in the 98+ pages this may have been covered already. But it's not a nice picture that's being painted in this very detailed timeline.

“A blistering report released on Wednesday by an investigative panel looking into the Valentine's Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida last year, exposes a litany of school security breaches and chaotic protocol leading to the deaths of 17 students and faculty, and it recommends arming teachers to prevent or slow future on-campus attacks.”

Too bad all the legislative ire has already been directed at everybody except those responsible.
As usual law abiding people who just want to go about their daily business unmolested get the shaft while the incompetent and downright evil perpetrators skate through without a scratch (or even benefit from their malfeasance),

Found the South Florida Sun Sentinal article through Active Response Training. Blows your mind, great article and reporting. Really makes me realize that kids are on their own when an active shooter is in the school. Highly recommend reading.
Not a quote but a paragraph goes something like, “Coral Springs PD enters building 12, shooter buys a drink at subway.”
Crazy fucking world out there.
