Ruger LCR and 38-44 Hi Speed Ammo

So... bought an LCR. A camo LCR.

Because it was $80.00 cheaper and I have permanent markers...

Except that the markers didn't work: They just dissolved the top-coat of the hydro-dipped crap.

So... I had to take the whole gun apart, use acetone and then simple green to strip the finish, then use the marker.

I do have an appreciation for the lock work on the LCR tho. I like it.

Then I shot some old 38-44 Hi Speed Remington 158's I had lying around.

I will chrono these sometime soon...

Is it wrong that I used to load 135 grain 10mm loads with a muzzle flash like that just so I could take them to an indoor range and listen to people go "WTF was that?"

They actually made dust come down from the ceiling tiles...

Are the markers permanent on the LCR frame?
I was into 10mm Auto before it sold out and went mainstream, but these days I'm here for the revolver and epidemiology information.

I giggled at the marker idea. Brownell's alumahyde is your friend.

I loaded up some 170-grain LSWCs in .38 Special brass over a charge of Unique I found in an OLD Lyman manual, meant for 38/44 HDs. My plan is to use them as woods loads in my beater M28, but I shot them in my 4" M13. That's some feisty ammo. After two cylindersful, I decided to reserve them for the N frame as originally planned.

Although I have not yet used this particular business, I came across them while looking for a coating for a different application. I did not realize that Cerakote is as inexpensive as it is, and it would likely produce a more protective and aesthetically appealing result than a permanent marker.

Over the years I've shot a lot of the 38/44 Hi Speed ammo found in garage sales and estate sales. This stuff was made before manufacturers became concerned about adding flash retardants to powder. The fireball reminds me of .357 magnum ammo loaded with the slow burning 2400 powder and fired in dim light.
