Thread: Staked 1911 front sights... what am I doing wrong?

Tenon front sights suck. Wide tenons suck slightly less than narrow tenons. I would second the recommendation of a little JB Weld, with a reminder to properly clean the mating surfaces prior to application. If you ever need to take it off you can hit it with a torch.
I was into 10mm Auto before it sold out and went mainstream, but these days I'm here for the revolver and epidemiology information.

The larger and therefore heavier a staked on front sight is, the higher the likelihood that it will come off during shooting. I think that Colt 1911 front sight holes and factory tenons were more compatible in shape meaning that the fit was better before staking process began.

For staked sights, I definitely like silver solder.
