I don't know how practiced you are with waved knives (and I don't mean this in any other way than as pure info), but the Spydie versions do require a bit more wrist angling if you are used to the Emerson ones (i.e. pulling straight back). My answer to the variations is to angle the knife outwards as I grip it and pull it; it tends to work with the variations I've dealt with. Do it slow at first so you can feel and see where the "wave" hooks best and work from there. Each knife is slightly different and sufficiently so that there really isn't a "one way for all".
