I also agree that they should have taken the firing pin block plunger out to check the spring to find out why the lever got chewed up in the first place. Otherwise, it may simply occur again.

As to making sure the lever is down when you reassemble, you always have to do that anyway for it to not hit the back of the slide. It still will not stay in place during cycling, anyway.
