There are definitely no MIM parts in a DW.

A couple models used to have cast (not MIM) mag releases, but that was changed a few years ago.
Perfect! It didn't look extended to me but I see I overlooked it when I read the Dan Wesson features list!

    Boom.

No MIM, extended release, ambi safety, magwell, 9mm, ball cuts, light rail, undercut trigger guard, front strap checkered, long trigger, beavertail -

All that's left is front cocking serrations, adjustable sights, and bushing-less barrel...

Slightly off topic, but what’s up with DW’s love for the 90 degree angle on the trailing edge of their thumb safeties? I’m guessing it’s for esthetics, but it is not the most comfortable thing to be under your thumb during recoil.

I think the Specialist might be your best bet.

Question on the light rail. Are you going to CC a wml? If that's the plan than maybe an aluminum frame might be beneficial after a long day.

The Dan Wesson is listed at 42 ounces. I'm not sure if the extra few ounces come from the rail or the mag well but it's 6 ounces heavier than my Springfield Loaded (which is my EDC and I'm not a weight sensitive guy) then add a loaded mag, then a light and it might get a bit heavier than anticipated.

9mm 1911s are very soft shooting and the wml will get the weight back up to normal 1911 levels.

    Just a thought.

It sucks out loud. It will beat a hole in my knuckle in 100 rounds on a .45 LWC. I have to file a bevel on it and spray and bake the part. Granted, that whole operation takes less time than changing the grips and costs nothing.

Ok, now I feel bad for complaining.

As an index, “exactly what I want” (full goose) is $5-7k, “almost” (WC) is $3-4K, and “good enough” (DW) is $1500. What you’ve presented makes the specialist very hard to beat. If you’re not going to carry a WML 24/7 you will be well advised to delete that requirement; it jacks up how the gun carries, limits holsters, limits gun selection, and is ugly. If you’re going to carry the gun 16/7 please consider a LWC. I do carry steel guns a lot but it is not easy in the summer.

The gun will pretty much never be carried with a WML. The WML is for when it’s on night stand duty. I also keep a spare X300 in my truck in the event that I come home to a burglary in progress.

De gustibus non disputandum, but even being the super 1911 guy I can be, if I had a nightstand gun it would be one of my hicaps.

    Mr. Goodtimes,

I was at a range in Florida and I shot next to a fellow who had built his own 1911. He let me shoot his pistol and all I can say is that it was a stunningly beautiful 1911. I'm far from being an expert, but there is no other way to describe this pistol except to say it was truly outstanding!!!! If you are seriously interested in building a 1911 then you may want to take a pistolsmith class with Bob Rogers at Bob Rodgers Pistolsmithing. The expense may be more than you had initially intended to spend on your 1911, however, you will be getting what your are looking for a superior customized 911 with the finest components. Additionally, you will learn how to maintain it, set it up and so that your 1911 will run well. Hope this will help, good luck in your search.
