Wow...fortune was with that officer that night. More power to him.
There's nothing civil about this war.

This is the second controversial shooting in Columbus this month.

First one has no video. Franklin Co Deputy assigned to USMS shoots unarmed man. It’s a shit show with the USMS first saying basically “it’s a good shoot” then saying we shouldn’t have said that. Then a week later saying, Deputy was operating under USMS during the shooting so it’s the Sheriffs problem. 🤦*♂️

A few thoughts shared elsewhere by a couple of different posters:

1st one - "The door opening multiple times in that manner was definitely out of the ordinary. Officer did a reasonable job using the angle and distance to approach the car.

He was clearly taken by the surprise by the speed and violence of the violator. It’s hard to see what happens in the middle of the scrum because of the light.

it’s important to note the officer goes to the ground very quickly after rounds being fired but the bad guy does not (after receiving his dose). I’ll speculate that’s the officers flinch more than the “knock down power” and the suspect needed switches and timer to turn him off.

Post shooting, looks like he was struggling to put his radio back together. Talk about tunnel vision. He’s got a 6000 pound vehicle with flashing lights and a radio a few feet away and he’s focused on fixing something that’s broken right in front of him.

I thought at first he was trying to wave other motorists over to help which was sorted out from the second vehicle camera. That officer clearly heard the shots but didn’t want to believe his senses and had to ask.

I also thought they started the clearance of the vehicle very quickly. Unless they had a whole contact team there in seconds that could have waited a bit since the situation was somewhat stable and there’s no intel to suggest an imminent threat in the vehicle."

My addition: "Some others I'd add ... shut down the other side (eastbound) of the highway. With an on-ramp right there, I'll extrapolate there's an offramp a bit farther back. Close down those two ramps and now you have a place for incoming coppers to park and work from. I saw I'm guessing, 10 units roll by and have to continue way down the highway to get off, turn around, and get back on. That's not something the primary has to do but someone with good area awareness could. It took about three minutes to get the westbound traffic diverted or shut down so it was not passing by the active scene.

Medical aid - the shooting looks to end about 2:55, when the video source switched at 8:55 I still hadn't seen officers move up to either clear the suspect's vehicle or secure & search the suspect in order to get medical treatment started.

I'm glad the primary officer was working through his injuries and staying in the fight mentally. However, once he goes to deploy the AR, seemingly without purpose, I worry we are going to see a shoot from the back of the bus scenario take place.

Move vehicles to create cover. Towards the end, one copper is out in the road on & he appears to be looking at the suspect vehicle. Swing another unit wide and let the officers have it (& it's lights) for concealment/cover

Audio would have helped on this, especially towards the end of the second video. I see things that appear purposeless or uncoordinated."

Douglas County, NV sergeant shot during stop of vehicle with fugitive. This is from a news station, with three body cam views. I was unable to find a direct link to something from the agency. The sergeant was released from the hospital yesterday and given an escort home. A lot of people came out to pay tribute as the convoy drove past.

Unless you're trained with doing a tactical block, parking in front of a suspect's vehicle seldom does much except create a crossfire situation. The proactive investigative units in this county (repeat offenders section, special assignment, special investigations) train for and utilize blocks. That said, while I don't know the detail, the last officer shot in the county was an ROS detective on a vehicle takedown.

The Douglass County troops overall handled the situation very well, especially since the sergeant had just been shot. I probably would have walked the suspects back to the cruisers, however, and I was concerned that one officer might "shoot from the back of the bus" past officers closer to the male suspect.

Lake Havasu, AZ. Bad guy was later determined to be unarmed. The officer almost seemed surprised when he fired.
