    Denver PD Vs female suspect.

Denver, Colorado — On Thursday August 15, 2019 two uniformed patrol officers assigned to district one in northwest Denver, had just completed a call for service and prepared to meet at a nearby 7-eleven at Colfax avenue and Perry street. Officer Ismael Lopez arrived first, entering the parking lot from the Perry street side. Officer Lopez observed a dark-colored jeep patriot, on the northwest corner of the building. Officer Lopez recognized his vehicle and was aware that it was involved in an eluding incident two days prior, on August 13, 2019 in the area of 8th avenue and Knox court. Officer Lopez positioned his fully marked police vehicle behind the jeep and made contact with a male who was filling one of the vehicle's tires with air. Officer Lopez recognized the male was acting nervous. Due to this individual's behavior and Officer Lopez's knowledge of the prior looting incident, officer Lopez completed a cursory research of the male for weapons. During the search, officer Lopez recognized the male had a syringe in his pocket and decided to detain him, by placing him in handcuffs.

While officer Lopez was handcuffing the male, a female 31 year old Jamie Fernandez, exited the front passenger seat, of the jeep patriot and began running east, along the north side of the 7-eleven. Fernandez ignored officer Lopez's repeated commands to stop and stay in the vehicle. At this time the second officer, Cprl. Brandon Reyes, arrived at the 7-eleven and entered the parking lot from the Colfax avenue side. Without warning Fernandez reached into her purse and produced a black handgun. Fernandez aimed the handgun in the direction of the officers and the male being detained. Fernandez fired the weapon, one time as she continued moving to the east, towards the north south alley that runs between Osceola street and Perry street. It was at this time that both officers drew their handguns. Cprl. Reyes fired several rounds while simultaneously moving east, to the mouth of the Osceola Perry street alley.

Officer Lopez was still in the process of handcuffing the male, when Fernandez shot at him. After being shot at, officer Lopez pushed the male to the ground, moved to the east and discharged his firearm multiple times, using a dumpster as cover. After shooting several rounds, officer Lopez believed he heard gunfire continue from Fernandez. Officer Lopez reloaded his handgun and fired additional rounds, after observing Fernandez continuing to hold the handgun off the ground, while pointing it in his direction. Officer Lopez stopped firing, when he observed the gun fall to the ground and he believed Fernandez was no longer a threat. The officers immediately requested an ambulance respond to the scene. The officers approached Fernandez and located a 380 caliber ruger handgun on the ground next to her. Officer Lopez moved this handgun several feet away, so officers could assess and secure Fernandez. Fernandez was transported to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Through the investigation, it was determined that a total of 30 rounds, were fired by the officers. Investigators recovered a black, 380 caliber ruger lcp semi-automatic handgun at the scene. This handgun had a magazine capacity of six rounds and could carry one in the chamber. When recovered, there were no live rounds in the chamber or the magazine of the gun. In Fernandez's purse, a second magazine with six live rounds was located. It was determined the handgun, Fernandez possessed was stolen in a criminal trespass, to a motor vehicle in march of 2019. Detectives located two spent, 380 cartridge casings, that were forensically matched to the handgun recovered from Fernandez. One of the rounds that was fired by Fernandez, was recovered from a business on the north side of Colfax avenue. The officers and the male who was detained, were in the path between where the round was fired and the business that was struck. The round that was recovered was forensically matched, to the handgun recovered from Fernandez.

Man Gets His Dog Shot Trying To Resist Arrest in Bishop, California

Bishop, California — On July 24 shortly after 2:00am Inyo County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic violence restraining order violation at 969 Tu Su Lane. Upon arrival of the deputies, neither the reporting party nor the suspect could be located. While looking in the area, the deputies noticed a male subject across the street at the Chevron station, which was closed; the subject was agitated and yelling. When the first deputy contacted the subject (32 year old Bishop man, George Barlow III) Barlow asked, “Can I kill you too?” Barlow then charged the deputy with his pit bull closely behind him.

The deputy continually ordered Barlow to stop charging. When Barlow came within 10 feet, the deputy deployed his Taser. Due to the heavy clothing Barlow was wearing, the Taser had no effect on Barlow. Barlow removed his heavy sweater. The second deputy responded to the Chevron at this point and after Barlow refused to follow commands, he deployed his Taser striking Barlow in the upper abdomen. This caused Barlow to fall to the ground. Before the deputies were able to handcuff him, Barlow sat up and removed the Taser darts. Deputies transitioned to a baton and after striking him, Barlow grabbed the baton and attempted to get it away from the deputy.

Both deputies received dog bites before a deputy was able to shoot the dog. Barlow was pepper sprayed which caused him to release his grasp on the baton and charge at the deputies. Verbal commands were continued to be given to Barlow which he ignored. The Sheriff’s Office deployed its canine which was able to subdue Barlow until an additional officer from the Bishop Police Department arrived and they were able to handcuff Barlow. Deputies immediately provided medical aid until an ambulance responded to medically clear Barlow before transport.
Is it just me, or after the K-9 bite as they were trying to cuff this asshole, was said asshole trying to bite one of the deputies lower leg ?

Cops Shoot Suspect As He Stabs His Mother

Bakersfield, California — On Friday, August 13th, 2021, at 8:47 AM, the Bakersfield Police Department received a call regarding a peace disturbance in an apartment complex in the 200 block of Stephens Drive. The caller advised they could hear yelling from an apartment, between a male and a female and that the male subject was possibly under the influence of drugs. Several additional calls were received in the area, involving a male subject screaming and possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. At 8:51 AM, responding officers attempted contact at an apartment in the complex. Officers contacted a neighbor who advised that the male subject was inside the apartment with his mother. They received additional information that the mother had given a neighbor a bag full of knives, to keep away from her son.

For approximately an hour, officers attempted to negotiate with the male subject to have his mother exit the residence so that officers could confirm she was uninjured. Officers observed that the male subject was still armed with a knife and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Neighbors also advised a history of domestic violence. The first body worn camera is from a witness officer, as officers attempt to communicate with the mother and male subject who are yelling inside the apartment. Based upon what the officers heard, they believed that the female inside of the residence was being harmed and forced entry. Three officers discharged their firearms. Multiple knives were located next to the suspect. Medical aid was immediately summoned; however, the suspect succumbed to his injuries. The female victim was transported to an area hospital with several stab wounds.

    I'm not surprised.

Back in my "test taking" phase in the early 90's one local agency's process included signing an acknowledgement that:
    1)You would be required to carry your duty weapon fully loaded when on duty;
2)That you would be willing and able to use lethal force in defense of yourself and others when necessary.

I was told #1 came about after an employee was found to have intentionally carried an unloaded gun on duty for years.

Had a person from another office who was on TDY with us come out to the range recently who was doing carrying chamber empty. New, less than 2 years on. Initially thought they simply forgot. Came to learn they were carrying chamber empty on the regular due to having ND'ed into their leg while in the Academy. They advised their TLR-1 had caught on a 7000 series ALS holster during a draw.

No more so than a Glock.

This was definitely someone who, as the saying goes, should be calling 911 not be 911. You could give them a rock and they’ed drop it on their foot.

Outstanding work by Denver's officers. Zero hesitation when the opportunity presented itself.
