    Sports Sedan <$40k

This isn't really based on an actual purchase or need, just something I thought would be interesting since I know we have some car guys.

    Parameters as follows

    • Must have an actual street price of <$40k out the door
    • Must fit four adults, two front and two rear, comfortably
    • Must at least lay claim to some sort of "performance"
    • Must have a trunk that can fit at least a couple of rifles, or two golf bags
    • Doesn't have to be a sedan, could potentially be a wagon or SUV. No trucks (i.e. nothing with a bed)
    • Must be a daily driver. No garage queens or collector cars

    1. What's your suggestion if buying new?
    2. What about if buying used?

There are two types of people that ask this question:

    1.

    2. Those who see how Toyota Camrys are so prevalent and get a clue

    3. Those who seek unicorns to roll down snowflake hill

More recent Impala LTZs have impressive powerplants and comfy ride. S60 T6 as well.

I drive a 2016 Chrysler 300S. Got it for $32,000 (new) out the door in January of 2017. It is very comfortable, seats 4 no problem with room left over. At times I have 3 children's booster seats in in the back and they all seem fine back there. Rear wheel drive, 3.7l V6 with 300 horsepower and sport suspension. It moves pretty well. I have gotten as high as 30 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 75. Trunk size is quite capable, the back seats even fold down to accommodate longer items. Has a Beats Audio sound system and the roof is all glass with a sunroof. Its a pretty fun car to drive. If I were to look at an SUV, I would look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

    Any exclusions off the top?
    Think for yourself. Question authority.

New: Civic SI, pocket about 10-12k change.
Used: Tougher. Would look for a couple year old 3 series.

Chrysler 300/Charger SRT8 roll in at $30K or less and have a 6.4L under the hood while getting 25mpg highway. Gives up some in the turns due to weight, but makes it back in other ways in my opinion.

Chevy SS are 30-40K and have a 6.2 under the hood and get 22mpg highway. Hard to find a manual transmission, but would be worth the hunt in my opinion.

This is definitely a unicorn exercise.

    None I can think of.

    ETA:

Seeing the Civic suggestion, on a more personal level I probably wouldn't buy anything myself that's seen as too "boy racer"-ish, which would include anything like the Civic, or a Subaru, etc. i don't think it would be terribly well received in my profession, among other things.

While I admit to not really liking the Civic (drove one under a semi 2o years ago) so I ahven't ever paid them much attention, two questions..
    1) is it really "sport"? Even the SI?
    2) does the back seat really hold 2 adults comfortably?
