The original slide developed some primer gas cutting around 6500 rds and was replaced under warranty (discussed below). Before that I had sent it back at round 750 due to extraction issues. Other than that I only replaced recoil springs every 2,500 rounds.Originally Posted by coN
Edit: Oh! I also replaced the magazine followers on my original magazines when they wore enough to cause intermittent slide lock issues. I haven't had the same problem with the new magazines, but I am also spreading the wear and tear over 10 mags, not 2-3...

Primer gas cutting from cheap ammo is why my slide wore prematurely (it did not fail - was still functioning). Here was my breech face at ~4500 rounds (which makes me think this was not a manufacturing defect):Aluminum cased 9mm is why my modern Sig failed.

From what I read, primer gas cutting happens when the primers aren't seated well, the casing can't keep the primer from moving, or when the primer hardness is not properly matched to the amount of powder charge. But if you have a better hypothesis than a rolling eye emogee, I'm all ears.

I'm now looking forward to seeing how well the P365 air pistol will work for practicing draws to first shot at home/backyard. I expect the trigger to be different, but if the sights and POA/POI are reasonably close at ~3-7yards, that would be great. If the natural index is the same so I can practice instinctive/point shooting, that would be frickin fantastic!

Just confirmed my LGS has a rental P365. Planning to go shoot it this weekend.
Say I get sucked in and want to buy one.
There have been running changes in design, I am understanding. I understand the firing pin is redesigned, and the striker spring that was posted up thread no longer looks like a bowl of spaghetti I noticed last year.
Is there any way to tell if a particular P365 has the latest stuff?
Perhaps by serial number. What would you be looking for?
How about any signs from the outside? I’m thinking they won’t want me to field strip their rental.

Mine had a mfg date on the box. I bought the newest one they had and checked the night sights in a dark bathroom before I agreed to take it. Not sure if that is the best way to go, but it's what I did.
In the past I have returned a few S&W handguns for various reasons. Each time I called they sent a call tag and paid shipping both ways. Is this common practice die gun manufactures? Does Sig send cal tags for their guns to be returned?
My P365 had a dud front night sight. Sig customer service paid for shipping both ways and the turnaround time was reasonable... They swapped out the complete slide as per the work order sent back to me.
The box should have the born on date. If not, or if covered by a sticker, you can call Sig customer service ( 603-610-3000 ) and give them the serial number and they can tell you for certain.
Serial numbers are largely sequential, but there have been some numbers that jump around. Rough guide:
60,000+ June 2018 or newer (new striker)
75,000+ July 2018 or newer
95,000+ August 2018 or newer
100,000+ September 2018 or newer
210,000+ October 2018 or newer
245,000+ November 2018 or newer
280,000+ December 2018 or newer
315,000+ January 2019 or newer
350,000+ February 2019 or newer
375,000+ March 2019 or newer (also includes some 120,000-135,000)
400,000+ April 2019 or newer (also includes some 130,000-140,000)
Other ways:
The slide is stamped with a revision number. These are approximate:
0018-16 was in January-February 2018
0018-17 was February 2018
0018-18 was in March 2018
0018-19 was March-July 2018
0018-20 was May 2018-February 2019
0018-21 started around Jan 2019
It is easier to see if you field strip:
but if you shine a light up through the empty magwell with the slide forward, you might be able to make it out:
If you lock the slide back, you might also be able to see the stamp indicating when the grip module was made. Just keep in mind these are often dated a month or 2 before the pistol was assembled (My May 18 p365 has a March 18 grip module). The year is in the center and the arrow points to the month:

Sig will email you a FedEx 2day shipping label for warranty work - you just find a box to stick it in. Turnaround is usually 1-3 weeks but it can take longer if they are short on specific parts (which happened during the P320 "voluntary upgrade").
Not all gun manufacturers cover shipping on warranty work, but many do.
