    Week 247: 3x5 Cold

    Week 247: 3x5 Cold

Results may be posted until January 15th, 2018.

    Designed by: DocGKR
    Range: Varies
    Target: 3x5 card
    Start position: Varies (concealed preferred)
    Rounds fired: 2

We'll do something very simple this week. The first two shots you fire at the range should be to a 3x5 card, timed for score. That's it. Just do it once per day. The important part is that you shoot it cold, no warm up, no dry-fire, no sight pictures. Don't point the gun at the target or anything else to "get ready" for the drill. You score bonus points if you do it with your carry ammo without fiddling with your magazines first, either.

Distance is up to you. Start position is up to you, though shooting it from concealment is preferred as usual.

If you go to the range more than once this week, try this each time and record all your results.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

    Distance to target
Start position (concealed, retention, open top holster, or ready position)
    Time
    Number of hits

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

I’ll bite-“lead for lunch”! Indoor range at lunchtime: shot cold, no dry fire this AM.
    Equipment: Gen5 17 w/Ameriglo sights(night, yellow-green front), Inforce APLc mounted, Safariland ALS holster @3 o’clock, concealed
under windbreaker, hands at side start. 147gr. Winchester JHP carry load.
IDPA target at 5 yards, index card on head.
Time: 3.15 seconds: 2.52, 3.15; two hits just slight left of center of card(1/2” center to center)
Notes: I approached this as “must hit”(my rationalization), and “looked” at front sight for “precision” sight alignment/picture/shot. Most probably not up to Mr. Whites standards, but I’ll take it as informative.

Outdoor range, before local IDPA match at noon.
Gen5 17, Alabama holster(kydex), concealed under down jacket. 147gr.carry load, first shots of day, with no AM dry fire.
Pass, 3.08, two hits in lower left corner I covered with one paster.
“Double clutched” draw(didn’t clear coat), and from the two shots almost touching, I’m guessing 2nd shot too “precise”.
Good little exercise to start, and I will hit it again into new year...
Thanks to Dr. GKR and Mr. White!
    Edit: target @5yards

S&W M681, R-P .357 Magnum 158 grain SJHP, Dillon Leather OWB holster under a fleece vest, seven yards. 3.77 to the first shot which was a well-centered hit, followed about a second later (I've blanked it from my mind) by a "How-the-hell-did-I-do-that?" miss.

OK, I will put at least some of mine at 7 yards... @Kevin B.-impressive! May I ask what your carry holster and carry load is?
    Thanks
GJM comments the first round can be dry fired for good practice-he’s right of course.
Mr. White, would be interested in reading about your run, if you will?
