I seriously had never thought about using birthdays as an excuse to buy a gun. Thank you in advance for whatever 30-caliber rifle I buy. And congratulations on the sweet 45!

I love 3rd gen Smiths. Just happened to mention that in another thread and DB took advantage and he's shipping a Fresno-marked 4506. There's also a 4566 TSW on Armslist up in Denver that won't sell and they keep dropping the price, it's down to $500. Boy do I ever want to go grab that thing.

What's wrong with that? A Howdah would be cool!

Maybe a little tough on the wrists, but cool.

Somebody had buffed out the slide on the 4506 (nicely, but still), or it may have been a closer decision. The 645 nearly tugged me that way, but ultimately, the 4516 fits my accumulation of S&W better.

Might still look around for a 4506 as time goes on. Or a 1006.

Congratulations! I've had several 3rd gen S&W autos over the years. My very first handgun was a 5906 I bought to celebrate my 21st birthday. Wish I still had that one. I hope to buy a CHP 4006TSW one day with the integral rail. Don't need it, don't like the caliber, but I love the looks of that gun. And it's a CHP pistol that served them well for several decades.

I went thru the same reasoning a few years back to celebrate my 45th birthday. I had a Springfield Professional with rail on order but ultimately I cancelled it as I do not shoot .45s any more.

However, to celebrate my 50th I think I'll buy myself a Ruger new Blackhawk Bisley 7.5" in .45 Colt. It's not a 50 but it's pretty close..
Now that I'm starting to reload it'll be much more affordable to shoot a .45 Colt.

FYI, Summit Gun Broker has been getting regular shipments of the former CHP 4006TSWs and they're priced under 400.

I appreciate that. Unfortunately, the tyrants running California came up with a handgun ban by decimation around a decade ago where only "safe handguns" can be sold via a roster. S&W (along with Ruger, Colt, and some others) decided a few years back to not continue paying the racketeering monies to the state of California.

Thus I can only buy one of those CHP 4006TSWs if it's in the state and face-to-face.

That "safe handgun" roster is working as intended as every year there are less and less guns on the list that are still approved for sale.

There you go, giving me an excuse to get a S&W Model 25 or CZ97 next year.

I'll turn 50 on my next birthday and I spend far too much of my time trying to decide what pistol I should treat myself with. Current internal debate is between a 9mm DW Commander (Specialist or Valkyrie) and a no lock S&W 340 with a trip to Robar for smoothing & coating...decisions, decisions.
I think Gunctafter Industries makes a .50 1911 if you’re feeling particularly ridiculous.
