When I think "modernized AK", the Galil SAR and ARM come to mind, or the SAM7SF or better yet, the Valmet 62 or Sako 95. The Sharps aluminum receiver is neat, I guess... if you want to stick M4 doodads on an AK. I'd prefer to see a selector like the SAM7SF/Galil and a solid mounted dust cover with a rear mounted peep sight like the Valmet/Sako/Galil and maybe move the front sight to the gas block. The Galil Ace is close but why couldn't they have given it an aluminum receiver to save some weight? And at $1700-1800 for the Ace, who wants to dump that much cash into an AK? Unless some real innovation comes out of DNO, they're just a DNF in the race to the "American AK". And would it have killed them to stick a decent side folder on it?
