How are the Kershaw versions? I'd love to get the ZT version but my knife budget is basically nill. Been eyeing this one for a while.

The only one I like is the Kershaw Emerson CQC-5k. I like that one quite a bit, and have two or three. My girls each have one too. It has G10 scales on both sides. It is a much smaller knife than the ZT or real Emersons, but is the best cheap knife I've found.
I believe all the other models have a single sided frame lock design, using heavy steel. I don't like that very much.

I discovered that the CQC-8k has 2-sided G10 scales. Looks good!

Is the difference between frame lock and liner lock negligible?

Since we're on the CQC-5k, is it normal to have a slight amount of vertical(?) play when the blade is not locked? Asking as a knife knewbie. My recent purchase has a little play around the pivot. I don't know if it's normal or due to me flicking it open so many times. My Tenacious has the same thing. I know they are budget knives so I don't have high expectations, just trying to learn what's normal and what's not.

Yup. Just tighten it until the blade doesn’t move freely, then loosen slightly. A bit of oil helps.
