Thread: Support hand (L hand) placement

  1. #11
It's worth noting that Tom Givens teaches a thumbs UP grip instead of the thumbs forward grip that Mr Kelley demonstrated. At a recent Instructor Development course he argued it was a more natural position for the hand. This is not say that Patrick, or anyone else shooting thumbs forward, is wrong. The context is different and there is more than one way to "skin the cat."

Anywho.... that's probably a can of worms.

Patrick mentioned lifting your strong hand thumb to allow room for the heel of your support hand to make contact with the gun. With my big ol' meat hooks, I find it helpful to also open up the heel of my shooting hand slightly away from the grip of the gun to allow the heel of my support hand to get around the back of the gun.

Probably not squeezing very hard with my L hand. I don’t recall stressing that. I’ll try these tips out this weekend. Thanks
