    SBS questions

Is the muzzle blast on a 14" 12ga vs an 18.5" as proportionately brutal as a 10.3 5.56 vs. A 16" 5.56? Is it obnoxious and as sinus cleaning? What about flash, overpressure, etc?

It is fine as long as you don’t port the barrel, at which point it hurts to shoot without ear pro.

I hate to ask stupid questions, but I've never shot a 14" sbs. I have shot 10.3 and 7" 5.56. The 7 was a nightmare. Horrific. The 10.3 was...not pleasant. 14.5 5.56 is fun with ear pro. Where does a 14 inch 12ga fall?

    With ear pro, unremarkable.

Most fed Agrncy issue shotguns are 14". It is a much handier package with no real downside other than NFA.

Shotguns operate at much lower pressure and velocity than 5.56. GJM is correct about 14" shotguns being unremarkable vs say, an 18".

I can't tell the difference in the blast between my personal Benelli M2 and our issued 14" M500s, using the same ammunition. As others have posted, having shot a lot of 10.5" 5.56 rifles, including inside buildings and vehicles, there's a BIG difference in the blast with the rifle rounds, over a 14.5-20" M4/M16

I never noticed a difference shooting the issued 14” 870. It handles nicer than the 18”. I shot trap once with a 14” 870 with scattergun peep sights. I did fine.

Same here. But never shot trap with one. Did shoot skeet with a ‘97 Riot gun though.

My work gun is a SBS. I never noted any difference vs a 18" as far as muzzle blast.

Mine is also a 14”. Sounds like any ole shotgun. We use Federal reduced recoil, so I don’t know if that lessons the blast at all.
