Thread: K frame trainers - which models

    I'd look for one of the newer ones with the firing pin in the frame rather than the firing pin in the hammer. Some parts are getting scarce. I wanted to replace the hammer in a Model 10 with the hammer mounted firing pin. I had to get a used hammer.

    I’ll second this. Get a newer 67. I found a -5 that was still NIB. Love it. The newer ones (-6) have a 2 piece barrel IIRC.

    IMHO, the best K frame trainer would be a model 18 (blued adj sight .22 LR) 4" barrel. I absolutely love mine, as does everyone that has shot it.

    When I think K frame trainer I think of my S&W M18 4", it's a 6 shot .22lr that looks like a M15 .38 . I use it for club level rim fire steel challenge matches.
