    This is my rifle porn

Nope, don't like anything newer than an M40A1. The first person to gift me an M40A1 gets my shitty mod super powers.

Remington released a limited edition (not certain how closely it approximated the original) Vietnam era copy several years back. I almost bought one, but let it pass. One a few firearms related decisions I still regret.

I'm OK with modernizing one of these a bit, not making it a faithful report. Scope of my choice, 6.5CM caliber.

I like this idea. 6.5 cm, NXS 2.5-10, and an oiled wood stock. Old meets new.

For those that know: is it possible to maintain an acceptable level of accuracy with a wood stock?

    Sure. Until the weather changes.

Yup, just skim bed. I like your scope choice.

I think Mel of SniperCentral may have been one of the first to make a Vietnam-era M40. I seem to recall reading that he had thought that Remington saw his recreations and created their own variation.

    Anyway, a link:

Mel no longer makes these, so I wouldn't bother inquiring.

I wanted a left handed version, in .223 with a repro Redfield. Someday I may get one.

Mel solved the problem by using a stock with an aluminum bedding block:

The SC-M40 was a 96% replica of the original M40 with some improvements. The largest of which is the bedding on the rifle. While we are keeping true to the original M40 and not glass bedding the rifles, we are doing the next best thing, using an Accurate Innovations ® walnut stock with their patent pending aluminum bedding block.
I looked into the stock once, and it was something like $800
