But I fully expected a used 9mm Springfield 1911 to not be perfect. Not sure if I'll send it off to get worked over of just keep it as a range toy and try to get a Dan Wesson down the road.

That pistol plus $1500 in Dave Sams hands and it will be a 1" 50 yard gun that runs like a sowing machine and just needs normal lube to shoot and shoot and shoot. Albeit that 1" thing comes with his own special order 1:32 twist KKM barrel that is a 115 grain specialist. On any given day I cannot predict which format I think is more gorgeous. Standard frames or Operator frames.

Man, I should have bought one of those ^^^^^^^. I like them a lot, and hope Lipsey's does another run sometime.

No, you shouldn't have. @JHC, Myself and another inactive member here all acquired these when they came out. all three had multiple functional, accuracy and POA/POI issues and had to go back to SA. Both myself and the other member got rid of them after the factory declared them "fixed." Mine also had a rough crunchy trigger though it was pronounced "in spec" by SA and they refused to addess it under warranty. Extremely disappointing for a SACS or at least TRP level gun.

Mine came back functional but still not shooting POA/POI and still having a rough crunch trigger pull despite my paying for a SACS trigger job while it was there for warranty work. SA sent a shipping label to get it there but to add insult to injury, they made me pay the return shipping since I was having "extra" work done.

As I recall JHC's went back twice and still wasn't right. I suspect the fact it was an anniversary gift was a deciding factor in the pricey trip to Dave Sams to finally get it right vs simply getting rid of it.

My experience with SA 1911s is very inconsistent. I have a TRP Operator and MC Operator that are great but have had three that were problematic including the Lipseys gun which was the 1911 equivalent of dating a stripper.

I remember the thread, they were a total train wreck. I've had the opportunity to buy a few, but didn't want to risk getting one with fleas. I'd probably gamble and buy-in on the next run if they did one. What can I say, the heart wants what the heart wants.

They can do the gray Armory Kobe on other guns. Just say a TRP Operator with the same color scheme.

@HCM reports accurately. Mine ran OK but didn't group well at all. I went all in on it because of the gift factor and the lengths my wife and son went to track down one of the first one's available.

It's just my wild assed guess but I think after the spec for this upgraded all those internals with the tool steel parts etc, added the 25LPI checkering, there was no money for tuning/fitting. Hence twice SA returned it to me and said meets specs. ?

I've explored with SACS upgrading a stock gun with all those hard use internal parts and it was hundreds of dollars. That's my theory anyway.

Other than this story, I've had fabulous results with two TRPs and my LB Operator.

I have come to a mind that few factory offerings or even semi custom offerings meet exactly what I want. So I can definitely see myself buying another pistol that is close and then dropping the coin to get it just like I want it.

On that thread I think I posted the picture of Kevin B's B8 with 20 or 25 shots. He shot one at 7, 10, 15 yards in a walkback to confirm POI for him then the rest from 25. I think he put one or two outside the X ring. He estimated it may be the most precise pistol he'd ever fired.

He is waiting for a TRP .45 to come back from Dave Sams. He got the full treatment of mine plus.

Shot a couple hundred this morning. I pretty much only shoot from concealment doing moving, drawing, reloading drill anymore.

Wish i recorded some of it. I nailed my 8" steel one handed running full out to cover at 12 yards.

I shoot it better then my m66 at 25 yards but i actually think i shoot my m19 better. DA of course.

Last week i could not miss at 25 yards on my steel. I missed a few today. Kinda feels weird to be more confident with DA revolvers than a 1911.

I hardly get to shoot anymore. But I do love to blow off the lint and take a pic once in awhile
