I sent Novaks a base gun and this is what I just got back yesterday. It is close to the Classic gun package that they have. Matte blue finish.
The barrel is a Kart that they have marked as a National Match barrel. I called them to double check that it was a Kart barrel. It caught me by surprise but I like the stealthiness of it. Hidden gem that you have to look for.
Simply Beautiful
A while back, I had a USP in 9mm, a lightly touched Delta Elite, and an old Springfield built out as early bushing-barrel .45 for USPSA. The USP has become a couple of Roland Specials, and as far as I’m concerned , I can be buried with that Colt. The Springfield was a different story, as I unintentionally ruined it with what I thought at the time were reasonable bits of gunsmithing.
For a brief moment, I felt so lucky- a .45 and a 10mm, a Springfield and a Colt, angled and vertical serrations, parkerizing and bluing. Well, I stumbled across my own personal Springfield unicorn- the full rail Mil-Spec Operator without front cocking serrations. I’ve held one in hand before, but the timing was wrong. Today, it was right.
Per the PF Code of Conduct, I have a commercial interest in the StreakTM product as sold by Ammo, Inc.
Colt factory pencil barrels are generally tossed in the trash during a build and for good reason. When re-building a gun the cost to have them laser welded probably exceeds the cost of a new kart barrel. And a new kart barrel is objectively better than a factory colt pencil barrel.
But........I wanted to know what potential they had if properly re-fit. Kinda like trying to salvage an original engine rather than dropping in a new one. Why not? The owner of this gun was going to leave the factory pencil barrel as is. He was kind enough to indulge me in my curiosity and let me get them laser welded and then refit them.
Lower lugs:

Upper radial fitting pads I requested, the welder knocked it out of the park:
Closer detail:
The slide to frame fit is left un-touched from the factory. Not tight but not horribly sloppy. Around .005" play up and down and side to side. I added a EGW bushing.
This is the host gun:
I was super pumped to learn that it seems that these factory barrels shoot quite well when re-fit. These groups were shot off hand at 20 yards:
Wilson Combat 125gr, around 2-2.5":
Atlanta Arms 115gr, around 2-2.5"
And to steal the show, ASYM 115gr match ammo, a smidge under 1.5"
Not to shabby for a pencil barrel!
Man, have you got a welder! That dude's an artist, treat him right.
And nice shooting with a nice looking 1911, too.
