.224 Valkyrie?

Looks like federal is putting out some .224 hotrod set up to run 90gr projectiles from an AR 15...supersonic past 1,000 yards? Rifles to be made by a fair number of manufacturers.

Thoughts?

Yes, I am active on the 6.8 (and Grendel) forums and have seen discussions of 6.8 and 6.5G wildcats in 22 - that was my first thought also, the ARP barrels in 22 wildcats.

I think this looks better than the .22 Nosler. I’m interested in it I’d like to see what guns are initially offered. I’ve seen the list of who’s making guns but nothing on the websites yet. I’m curious to see if the 6.8 spc ii has a resurgence since this is 2 new calibers based on its case

Federal has been doing some cool stuff...not the least of which is USPSA specific ammo to make power factor...but this new .224 with a 90gr projectile just seems rad.

I guess I could try re-wording the question: what is the practical application for the 224 Valk where another mainstream (or at least established) cartridge can do the same thing? It's got a cartridge beat on velocity by 200 meters....okay, what does that actually mean for anything other than a gun-nerd's oogie-cookie? If you're trying to extend the range of the 5.56, there's already cartridges that do that (and better, from what I see).
