Not pets, exactly, but wife and daughter’s current project. They found a nest of flying squirrels in the attic while getting holiday dishes down. The mom bolted with at least one baby, but left two babies behind. My wife and daughter of course had to “rescue” the babies. We estimated them at about four weeks old when we found them. We think they’re about eight weeks now. We’ve been bottle feeding (puppy formula) and introducing acorns and other squirrel food from the woods around our house. Interestingly, The squirrels seem to be pretty attached to my daughter. She can put them down and they’ll jump back to her. She’s the primary one who feeds them.

I’m surprised. They’re actually pretty fun to have around. After some googling, they are apparently pretty common pets. Our plan is to have them fully weened around 12 weeks and try releasing them in our backyard. We’ll see what happens...

OK, those pics are pretty adorable. Good luck with them.

I have a lot of opinions that many here disagree with, but I hope “my boys are cute” ain’t one of them.

Dogs bring so much joy. Their lives are too short. I’ve always taken the loss of a dog very hard. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks, guys. Smoky's been gone since July 5, 2013 but I still feel his loss keenly. It was like losing an arm when I had to let him go.

Hopefully we have several more years with Skyler who channels him, (though they never met), in so many ways.
