    Help identifying this S&W revolver

A friend of mine is trying to ID the model of this S&W revolver, and asked me to help. He is looking at buying it, and whoever he is buying it from is not real gun savvy. Allegedly they can't find a model number on it anywhere.

It's supposed to be a .38 Special. I thought maybe Model 14, because of the adjustable sights and lack of the full underlug but apparently there were only about 100 4" Model 14's made with a 4" barrel.

    Anyone?

    It's a Combat Masterpiece. Either a Model 15 or a pre Model 15.

Yep, you’re right, I’m an idiot. Thanks.

Could that possibly be a model 67?

Looks to be nickeled, not stainless. I'd vote for a Model 15.
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

I don't think so. That appears to be an aftermarket nickel finish.
We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......

Y’all are right. What was I thinking? Someone getting a stainless pistol nickel plated would just be kooky...

Agree, Combat Masterpiece .38 with aftermarket plating. (S&W did not plate the hammer and trigger.) Plastic "pearl" handles.

I have seen recommendations to hard chrome plate a stainless gun. The chrome is harder than the stainless and protects against marring and wear. And in the unlikely event some gets knocked off, the stainless under it still won't rust; at least not readily.

In the desert, looking for water.
Well, it's a nickel plated, pearl-handled "pimp gun" or "sissy pistol". Depending on which cliche you like better.

    Probably would buy it.

reminds me of one of the "bumper chrome" pistols from Detroit, a guy from up there told me that the guys who ran the bumper chroming lines at the plants back in the 50's/60's/70's could double their salary on the side taking in people's guns to get "dipped"
