If I were doing domestic LE work walking in and out of ambient light or using visible white/conjunction with others who are I would prefer single tube. No blackout issues/auto shutoff and ability to use dominant eye through a red dot looking into a bright house or for pistol work. I have had experience with not being able to flip up NOD's quickly enough, you would have more difficulty getting them off quickly if they were just on a head harness, at least the ones I've used. Dual tube is great if everything is blacked out IMHO but, my experience with dual tube is limited. Glad the deputy had a set NVG's, I think they are awesome and I'd love to see domestic LE end up with them in patrol units. Your SA is much better when you can see and given the regular ambushes we are seeing on LE when responding to domestic and some fake calls for service it could truly save some lives.

Hell I've argued for Cobra gunships to end high speed chases that put the public at risk. Maybe that's too far. Maybe.

    The PVS-31 addresses these issues.

NVG's are a massive force multiplier and ensure the safety of cops and citizens alike.

Just last night we had a callout on a barricaded felon. We were still getting set up when he decided to boogie out the back door. My team was in the back and I saw him come out the door and do the "felony look" and start running. He ran smack dab into a pile of angry cops, some of which began smashing through the fence they were behind. The look of sheer surprise and shock on his face as they went loud on him was priceless.

End result: two in custody, two children never woke up, and everyone went home. All attributed to being able to see in the dark.

    Agreed.
Didn't even know the 31's existed but I'm pretty disconnected now. They look awesome sauce.

They are pretty nice. Unlikely that they will be available in the 1033 program anytime soon, though.

MRAPs, old 113 APCs,HMMWVs and other vehicles, and any safety gear like NVGs,Chemical suits and the like do nothing to harm any citizen in any way. Most items are already available to LE agencies and since both LE and Military are tax payer funded does anyone want surplus equipment just sitting somewhere and rotting? Sure some radical leftists and cop haters may but no one I know with half a reasonable thought wants a field full of MRAPs or wharehouse full of gear just sitting and going to waste.
What's wrong with the m16s? Before rifles we had to work a perimeters with pistols and shotguns, and they got worked at pistol and shotgun distances. I don't have a magic crystal ball that tells me that rifles solve every problem, but we've had several shootings that could have possibly been resolved without violence if we had a little more room to work with.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you're probably right.

Cue Tamara, and her stories of belt-fed LEO mayhem now. At any rate, doom on rifle guy. That's what you get for sneaking up on society's guardians. JMO. Moving on.

I think his point is that's the only real weapon being given out, the rest is armor or other defensive things.

My rifle and optic are both DRMO sourced.

Buck Doyle has some good points on LE usage of NVG equipment.
