The short version: Deputy contacts suspicious person and is immediately engaged with a knife. Deputy suffers slashing wounds to the head but is able to shoot the suspect. Both are expected to survive.

The report said he was released from the hospital after being treated for his wounds so he's probably doing OK, from a physical injury standpoint. I am sure that was not the most fun day of his life.
