I don't know if the class you will be attending with be north or south of the gnat line. If south a hat will also help to keep them out of your eyes.

I've recently bought this mesh ball cap by Condor:
Condor Mesh Tactical Cap (Tan, One Size Fits All) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004O2GUPE..._g9H1mvoOqQP38
I'm pretty happy with it.
It has a neutral tan color and is machine washable. Comes without the metal center cap pin. The Velcro areas on the top, front and rear are a plus, but I don't have any high-speed low-Drag patches.
For ear pro, being as I wear glasses, I have a set of MSA Sordins with the Gel ear cups. They seal very well.
I usually wear a hat indoors too; getting pelted with brass is no fun.

Hats are required safety equipment in several venues/programs I frequent, and they can be useful. I have some hats that need to be shifted or they will overlap the cups on my ear pro and break the seal. I try to keep a few designated range hats that are protective and comfortable in the bag for those places. Certainly, hats do no harm.
With that said, I also think the hat thing is bigger than it deserves to be. Brass to the head and face is not desirable, but nor is it injurious. Brass squirming in behind eye pro is a cited hazard and one I've experienced, but its more an issue of contour and fit of the glasses. A great deal of energy can be expended on hats, while large gaps, unrated fashion, and improperly worn eyewear goes unchecked.

There's a gnat line? I assume it must be SE toward the flat area of the state? The class is probably above it but I can't be certain.
I thought I left all the swarms of flying insects in Ohio when we moved South about 9 years ago and traded them for the crawling bugs in GA.
Thanks Rich & Octagon.
There is an imaginary line (actually a fault line) that crosses the state from Columbus to just South of Macon and across. Below we have gnats. They are the most aggravating flying insect known to man but thankfully they only annoy and do not bite or sting. In all actuality as long as you will not be near Andersonville you will be fine.
