Do you actually think the Democratic Party is a leftist party? Because actual leftists aren't a huge fan of them, either.
I'm unusual in the shooting community in that I have met, in real life, many people who identify as socialist so I'm always entertained by who conservatives think leftists are, and what they think "leftist policy" even is.

It doesn’t have to be a mutually exclusive situation. Hilary and Trump can both be rotten pieces of garbage.

Why should one love Trump? Why should one hate Trump? The same for HRC. To put my psychological hat on, this rhetoric is telling. It indicates an emotional evaluation of the person. I care about how their behavior is good for the USA.
Saying some one is a leftist or a right wing nut is an intellectual cop-out. Disagree and you get called one or the other by the tribe you are debating with. What about the policy? Maybe Medicare for all is a good idea. NO - you are a leftist.
That's a brilliant argument that says nothing about solving the health care problems that bankrupt folks who aren't rich.
So besides getting all sweaty and excited by rhetoric - what has the politician done?
As far as the RKBA - I wonder about this. Trump gets all a dither about the Wall. He will shut down the government for his scheme. He gets excited if a lower court messes with Obama care and has a fit if the SCOTUS doesn't.
When the lower courts continually confirm draconian guns bans, where are the Tweets or speeches? Where is the government closure for HPA, reciprocity or the SAGA act?

Hear him say anything specific on that one? The GOP House leadership or Senate Leadership? When Obama got in, McConnell said his priority was making him a one term president. That's not a good priority. It was tribal horsepoop so the GOP elite can make a buck. Of course, the Dems would have acted the same way.A BILL
To amend title 18, United States Code, to limit the authority of States and localities to regulate conduct, or impose penalties or taxes, in relation to rifles or shotguns.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. Short title.
This Act may be cited as the “Second Amendment Guarantee Act” or the “SAGA Act” .
SEC. 2. Limitation on authority of States and localities to regulate conduct in relation to rifles or shotguns.
Section 927 of title 18, United States Code, is amended—
(1) by striking “No” and inserting “(a) Except as provided in subsection (b), no”; and
(2) by adding after and below the end the following:
“(b) (1) A State or a political subdivision of a State may not impose any regulation, prohibition, or registration or licensing requirement with respect to the design, manufacture, importation, sale, transfer, possession, or marking of a rifle or shotgun that has moved in, or any such conduct that affects, interstate or foreign commerce, that is more restrictive, or impose any penalty, tax, fee, or charge with respect to such a rifle or shotgun or such conduct, in an amount greater, than is provided under Federal law. To the extent that a law of a State or political subdivision of a State, whether enacted before, on, or after the date of the enactment of this subsection, violates the preceding sentence, the law shall have no force or effect. For purposes of this subsection, the term ‘rifle or shotgun’ includes any part of a rifle or shotgun, any detachable magazine or ammunition feeding device, and any type of pistol grip or stock design.
“(2) In an action brought for damages or relief from a violation of paragraph (1), the court shall award the prevailing plaintiff a reasonable attorney’s fee in addition to any other damages or relief awarded.”.
So this is one reason to evaluate Trump as not doing much for the RKBA. Spare me that Gorsuch and Kavanaugh will lead the COURT to overturn the bans. I'll believe that when it happens. Someone posted that even if we get a decision it will be full of the weasel words that still allow the state bans as did the genius of Scalia. Been through that before.
As far a being a failure of a human being for various reasons, that can bring on an emotional distaste for him. It was the same for Bill and Hill and Donald, now. Only someone in full denial or cognitive dissonance can find them or him as acceptable moral beings. So we return to outcomes. He is full of crap about supporting the RKBA. He doesn't fear the NRA which continues to worship him. His support (as seen in the invited speech to the faithful at the NRA convention) is just an advertising, bait and switch.
The stock market wiping out a year of gains - another reason to think, empirically, that he isn't making great economic progress as he claims. Wages are stagnant, etc.
Hero worship is a fault of the tribes. I hate the dishonesty of tribal loyalty as compared to outcomes.

You're using a version of what I posted in the other Trump thread:
That there is someone worse, more awful, more stupid, or whatever, does not make the person being compared better. And when the favored sleazebag reneges on a promise, they say "Sure, he/she lied and/or fucked us, but the other sleazebag would have done worse."
I don't believe in, love, or worship the Fearless Leader, whoever that is at the given time and no matter what their party affiliation. IMO neither should anyone else because cults of personality usually don't turn out well. Part of being a patriot isn't being a blind follower of anyone, and I'm disturbed when people do just that.
To paraphrase G.K. Chesterton, “‘My President, right or wrong,’ is a thing that no patriot would think of saying. It is like saying, ‘My mother, drunk or sober.'”
