I've probably owned a dozen J-Frames over the years but most have gone by the wayside, with just a few remaining as sentimental pieces. The pragmatist in me dictates that my pocket .380's take their place as a matter of course.
When S&W started reintroducing the Centennial series of revolvers in 1990, I gobbled up this early Model 640 (.38 Special). It left my custody for over a decade, but I was fortunate enough to buy it back.
Shortly after the 640 came out, the Model 442 was introduced and I added one of those to my inventory. It got carried daily as a 2nd gun when I was on-duty and the factory finish quickly wore off. About that time, Walt Birdsong (RIP) had recently started offering Black-T to the public, so I sent it off to him for a new coat of paint. I don't have any pics of it since it's not mine anymore ..... I surrendered it to my daughter some years ago when she graduated from college and started living on her own. She won't give it back.
