Rescued this Model 38 from the used case of one of my favorite local shops.

Trigger is phenomenal. Love the case hardened trigger and hammer spur. I have been without a J Frame for a while. The original wood boot grips are nice but I would like to upgrade them soon.

They called those factory grips the J frame round butt target grips. Collectors item at this point if you want to sell them. I have seen them go on ebay for >$70

Those were known as the "banana grip" for obvious reasons and I don't recall them being anything but an accessory grip option. I think I have a pair of smooth ones in my grip bin.

Wow I had no idea. They are really comfortable but too large for front pants pocket carry.

The gun also came with a set of pearl handle grips. Which I proceed to drop on the garage floor and break when I got home from the shop.

I agree, that's why mine have seen little use in the 30+ years they've been in my grip inventory. However, they do such a good job at filling the space behind the trigger guard that I've kept them around for a future project. Some day I intend to shorten them so the bottom is flush with the frame.

How do these VZ wrap around grips compare to Pachmayr Compac in size?
