Trijicon RMR Type 2

The RMR doesn't work for me on my pistols of choice (Walthers) because their mounting screw locations are so much wider. If they came out with a 14 mm mounting screw width like other optics, I would take a serious look.

This is why it would be nice if there was a standard mounting base set up for handgun mounted red dots. Obviously it wouldn't always work with every gun or sight but if there was some standardization it would open the market for consumers and sight makers as well as gun makers.

Just talked to Trijicon Tech Support. The footprint is identical, no changes were made to the exterior housing.

If their drawing is correct they have significantly changed the housing dimensions and these will neither fit in an already milled RMR opening in a slide, but will probably not even fit ahead of the rear sight dovetail on a small frame Glock.

The current housing is 1.78 +-.005 per their print.
1.800 is a bunch (well .020) longer and makes a big difference.

I certainly hope that they haven't done something like this.

If the exterior dimensions haven't changed, let's see if they worked on the other complaint against the RMR (1st being FOV) and make the battery replaceable from the top.

Guy from Tech Support said the only real changes were upgraded battery contacts, even more rugged electronics, and a button lockout feature on adjustable LED models.

I kinda figured that, but they should probably avoid such a "rounding error" as 1.78 to 1.8 for a well established product with a very large installed base. Just sayin'

My big question is - is the window any bigger or clearer or does it still have the same tint and tiny window as the original ?
