Kimbers are over-priced, for what one gets. My personal experience: all three of mine, two Classic Customs and a Stainless Gold Match, needed work to function well enough to even bother to use for training, and only one Classic Custom worked well enough to trust for carry, and even then, I had to use only Metalform mags with the Classic Customs, and only McCormick mags with the Stainless Gold Match. Kimber-philes like to say it was "user error" on my part, but if so, then why did my Colt Government Models work reliably, with any decent magazine, no tuning or parts-changing needed? Kimber apologists will then tell me I should have bought the early ones, made during Kimber's glorious period, before that terrible internal safety was introduced. Well, mine were from that early glorious period.

Perhaps mine were Monday morning guns, fitted and finished while still hung-over?

I cannot be very helpful with articles on 1911 pistols, having stopped reading much on this subject around the turn of the century, when I bought my last new 1911 pistol. Plus, my currently-owned 1911 pistols are relatively expensive Les Baers, the one I bought new about the year 2000, and the other bought pre-owned last year.

Darryl's article on Modifying the 1911 for Service Use is a worthwhile read. Could be dangerous for your wallet...

the Wilson EDC X9 runs about 2895.00, they are taking pre-orders now.

a little pricey for a first gun.

for a first gun, budget 600, get a double stack 9mm, buy plenty of ammo and practice. learn how to shoot a pistol before you spend serious money on another. striker fired or DA/SA. and not some little mouse gun. full size.
