Of course, there's also the 'bang for the buck' factor.

A fellow can get a couple of Glocks and a Colt carbine for the price of some 1911s.

I'm glad I have the Dan Wessons and Springfield I own now, but I wouldnt put out the money required to replace them today.

I mean this is technically true, but you can get a completely decent 1911 for like $1100. Two Gen5 Glock 17s and an LE6920 are going to set you back like 2,000.

The cost of buying a 1911 is certainly a compelling argument against it...But then again, lots of people buy 1,000+ bucks worth of Sig 226 or Brig Tacs, HKs.

If you wanna git gud, your yearly ammo expenditure should be > than the cost gun you bought....by a factor of two at least

That can be done with a .38 super auto... I reload so my ammo expenditures are lower and even cheap factory super ammo is roughly $14/50 [Armscore] My Colt ran well out of the box but I think two mods did the trick into turning it into the reliable tool that it has become. 1) polish feed ramp and modest throat job 2) Wilson #15 flat wire recoil spring. The flat wire spring just works smoother and feels consistent throughout it's travel.
