    No, in real life he and I are the same age. What I meant was that he is playing a character that would be at least 80+ years old given the timeline and it's hard to buy into.

    He portrays the captive boy of what, roughly 15 or so in 1849. That would make him 81 in 1915 when the other part of the tale is told.

    They should have made some adjustments and allowances in the dates for the TV series. I don't remember any such disparity in the book but of course you are free to imagine the characters in your mind's eye.
